Isn't that Giles "I'm not diabetic I just have glucose spikes" Yeo?

My lightbulb started sputtering and then died. I called it Duane Mellor. Really these people do themselves less and less favours as time passes. The true fad diet is the low fat one started a few decades ago, since when population health went to hell in a handbasket.

    This was entertaining

    https://varputavi.wordpress.com/2010/12/21/fat-is-not-the-problem-says-dr-walter-willett/

Since then Walt Wallet and Frank Hunilever were reminded where Harvard's money comes from and have backpedalled ever since.

Yes that's the one he appeared alongside Duane on the BBC programme Trust Me I'm a Doctor

In this programme, Michael Mosley finds out how learning a new language can help stave off dementia. Giles Yeo goes vegan for a month to test whether it makes him healthier. Gabriel Weston asks whether you can get drunk on boozy food. Zoe Williams looks at what you can do to improve your health if you are living with heart disease. Alain Gregoire discovers how to protect your teeth from a hidden danger.

Hi Chris, If that is true, sapiens must have got the genes from Neanderthals, who had been out of Africa for 100,000s of years.
South Africans of African heritage seem to have problems with carbs, probably worse than former Europeans, which doesn't fit the theory.
This suggestion seems somewhat implausible to me.
From what I gather there have been many ice ages and interglacials in the last million years, very roughly it is 100,000 year cycle.

It seems that the longer populations have had agriculture the fewer problems they have with carbs. Much the same for populations who have lost lactose intolerance over time. I suspect current policy is to eliminate individuals who have a high genetic propensity for insulin resistance, even if that is the majority of the population.

I also suspect the elephant in the room is not just grains, and especially wheat, but the huge overdose of omega 6 seed oils, which other high carb populations have not been subjected to until recently.

This is supposedly in defence of carbs, we know carbs aren't essential, fat and protein are but not in isolation from each other

The health benefits of eating carbs

Agans and colleagues designed an artificial intestine, or human gut simulator, whose main purpose was to simulate the environment found inside the human colon.

The researchers used fecal samples from donors to recreate this bacterial environment and added nutrients first from a balanced Western diet, and then from a no-carb, no-protein diet made exclusively of fats.

Then, they applied a range of cutting-edge technologies to examine and measure the composition of metabolites resulting from changing the nutrients

    No shit! Hahahahaha

Seriously the divide between science and dogma is widening (and so is the population) and the more people see through the bollocks and improve their health the more desperate they get. Aseem is under attack right left and centre now because of Tom Watson. SADly Corbyn has gone from vegetarian to vegan.

Meanwhile I don't know if this is a last blast from Jeremy Rhyming-Slang or if Matt Hancock is determined to outdo him

Yes I've seen all the vitriol aimed at Aseem they can't replicate his success with Tom Watson so they resort to personal remarks, a sign of desperation in a attempt to discredit low carb

Then there's this from a GP

We can’t base public health policy on one MP’s experience

    http://www.pulsetoday.co.uk/views/blogs/we-cant-base-public-health-policy-on-one-mps-experience/20037503.article

Meanwhile yet another low carb success

‘I shed seven stone and reversed my diabetes through a low carb diet’

Yvonne Lane has avoided needing to take medication to control her blood sugar levels – by following a similar diet to Labour's Tom Watson

    You Couldn't Make This Up - Page 5 Thumbnail-Template-8-460x307

    Douglas Twenefour is not impressed

Douglas Twenefour, clinical adviser from the charity Diabetes UK, says: “When considering a low-carbohydrate diet as an option, people with diabetes should be made aware of possible side effects such as the risk of hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar). We also advise that people with diabetes discuss the amount of carbohydrate to be restricted with their healthcare team. “The best way to manage diabetes is by taking prescribed medications and by maintaining a healthy lifestyle that includes plenty of physical activity and a balanced diet that is low in saturated fat, salt and sugar and rich in fruit and vegetables, without completely cutting out any particular food groups.”

Evidence based my arse. Since well controlled diabetics are routinely excluded from studies there is no "evidence". Well except for Virta and a few other studies which are discounted for various reasons.

The ADA could have started studying the successful diabetics in their forum and by now could have nearly two decades of observation of thousands of subjects. But they didn't.

    Roy Taylor's latest opus.

I might have blinked and missed it but I don't think I saw a single reference to carbohydrate anywhere in this paper.

There's little doubt starving people on chemical shakes works but as has been pointed out a starvation ration of a high carb diet is actually low carb. With genuine low carb you don't need to starve to get the same result.

The government is behind this treatment despite the obvious cost to the NHS, would be interesting to see who has shares in the slime maunfacturer.

Another though, look at photos of Taylor and he appears to suffer from Vegan Neck. I can't remember who first pointed this syndrome out, on Twitter, but once seen you can't unsee it. This might explain why he steers clear of noticing or writing about carbs.
