Re: Thought for the day.
A truly great quote from a great man. What do you think he'd say if he were around today ? Would he be happy with the NHS he helped create or disappointed ?

Re: Thought for the day.
Despite denials by Cameron the transatlantic trade and investment partnership – TTIP poses a big threat to the future of the NHS.
"The most obvious threat here is to our National Health Service, already suffering from a programme of privatisation that the British people neither asked for nor consented to. Andy Burnham, the shadow health secretary, has pledged that a future Labour government would exclude the NHS from the trade deal – which is a good start. On the other hand, the Conservative health minister, and 7th Earl Howe, Frederick Richard Penn Curzon, brazenly suggests it is an opportunity for Britain’s pharmaceutical companies – which are already being accused of ripping off the NHS. If any future governments wished to definitively break from pro-privatisation policies, they could find themselves being sued too."

Re: Thought for the day.
"shared by the community"
In times of trouble I still think the great British Community comes to help each other. In general day to day life this is not always reflected as selfish greed comes to the fore. Is this an unfair generalisation?
If this great man were here today my guess is he'd be disappointed, and do his best to put things right...... not an easy task but it's one that should not be ignored. In the meantime, many nurses, GP's etc do their best to look after and treat those in need.
All the best Jan

On a similar note, it's 50 years today since Churchill's death. What a great leader and wit. He was not everyone's cup of tea and he had his faults but as a nation, we all owe him a huge thanks. I've recently finished reading his biography and thoroughly recommend it. A huge book on an ever bigger man.

Re: Thought for the day.
Looking around the internet I came across this quote from Michelangelo ......
“I saw an angel in the marble
and carved until I set her free.”
Perhaps not so much a thought for the day, but a thought that aren't we privileged to have some fantastic works of art - and I don't mean Tracey Emin, although there are some that do like her work.
All the best Jan

Apathy can be overcome by enthusiasm, and enthusiasm can only be aroused by two things: first, an ideal, with takes the imagination by storm, and second, a definite intelligible plan for carrying that ideal into practice. Arnold J. Toynbee
