You know I luv ya Mo, but that news makes me want to puke.

"Men with the condition live about 11 years less than those without it, while women live about 13 years less.

However, previous research had reported a gap of between 15 and 27 years.

Major advances have occurred in the treatment of type 1 diabetes over the last 30 years, and scientists said the life expectancy study could help future care plans and in the setting of insurance premiums."

You know as well as me, a very well controlled diabetic should live as long as anyone else. Bernstein is around 80 years of age and still working and has been a type one diabetic since the age of 12. "Men with the condition live about 11 years less than those without it, while women live about 13 years less." Totally unacceptable in my opinion, and does not have to be.

we are talking averages and the average diabetic is told that 7% is good and most don't get near it eating the healthy plate
so anyone under 7% should live longer than that average 11 years and someone with normal levels and a healthy diet could even live longer than the non-diabetic average.

This annoys me because it will affect the bonus I could get when I claim a pension for being diabetic (they will bet that I die young so give me more money if I chose a form of annuity). If all these Type 1's are swanning about in their 70's it'll mean I'll have less money to spend on socks.

It's just selfish of them really.

You have to think positive, a lot of diabetics don't have a need for socks and can flog their shoes on ebay. affraid

I'm taking the thread further off track, sorry. Rolling Eyes It's just this talk of socks....got me thinking. Yep, you all know what happens when I start thinking.....stand well clear. Smile

My Grandad came back from WW1 minus a leg, he got gangrene in the knee after an injury in the trenches. As an injured ex-serviceman he was frequently provided with lots of soft woollen 'socks' for the stump. My grandmother used to unpick many of these socks and re-knit the wool into jumpers for their 11 children. How times have changed, hey?

lol. No they don't. I know it sounds like a bit of a tall story, but it's true, honest. I don't know how he managed the ladders, but he did. But then that was his trade and in those days if you didn't work you didn't eat. He wasn't self-employed, he worked for someone else so I suppose they did the stuff he couldn't do.
