New study reveals the huge benefits of varying your walking pace rather than a steady plod. However, a steady plod is still better than watching TV. Anyone tried this ?

Not tried that myself Mo but I've found a steady walk for 2 miles or so with the Dog is enough to get the blood pumping just enough and keep my BG's lower although varying the pace would get me a bit fitter as I'm no athlete to put it mildly! lol

I think the important factor is not the form high interval training(HIIT) is the intensity. IF your exercise is not challenging your muscles and uses your rapid firing muscle it would not be as beneficial. A casual stroll may be great for stress, etc. but would not do much for BG.

Having a quick read, you don't need to increase the intensity that much to make a difference. This is not your HIIT as such, that is short bursts of intensive effort. This just appears to be a walk but with varied pace. As I said before, any exercise is better than none, even a 2mile plod with dog :-)

Exercise is important and we all have our favourites.

I particularly like walking and at this time of year with the trees showing their wonderful Autumn shades it doesn't get better.

Many say it is best to alter the pace but we must do what suits us best.

My father at 89yrs young goes walking every day .....often three miles, it is something he has always done.

But even if we can't all manage three miles 300 yds is better than none, and I guess if you have a dog to walk even better for you and the dog (they need exercise too.).

    Have you a favourite walk?

    All the best Jan
