The random late afternoon test was 10 point something.  I'd eaten my regular healthy food that day of porridge made with skimmed milk, berries and banana for breakfast.  Lunch was a cheese sandwich made with wholemeal bread and an apple.  I couldn't keep awake.  Would be sparko on the sofa after my healthy plate evening meal.

Today my random anniversary afternoon test is 5.4 Very Happy I am 3.5 stone lighter and don't intend sleeping until bedtime! I've met lots of lovely new people here and elsewhere.  Mexican food for dinner tonight.  It's all good thumb-up

That's a lovely 'feel good' story Avocado Sevenfold. Just what I needed to hear Smile

That's great news, but no disrespect, or not trying to p**s on your bonfire, your story is exactly what so many of us have achieved. Very well done and thank you for your great post and loyalty to this little forum.

Sorry I've not posted for a few days, been very busy and away on a trip to London. Anyway, I was in Tower Bridge last night and received a message from my daughter telling me her leg was hurting. Bit of history, for the last week or so, she has had severe stomach cramps and a swollen calf along with back pain. We took her to see 2 docs who barely looked up and gave her reassuring grunts and nods then told her to swallow some cocodamol and rest.
Last night she was in agony so I told her to go to A&E. Well, good job she did. She has now been admitted as she has blood clots in legs and lungs, along with a kidney bleed. She is having warfarin injections and the doc said the clot in her lung was not far from her heart. He could not believe 2 previous docs pretty much fobbed her off and he is gonna write to them both to complain. So, finally she is getting the right treatment. Moral of this story, don't blindly believe everything your doc says. You know your own body, trust your judgement.

Mo, I'm so sorry to hear that. That's disgusting treatment from the first 2 doctors. Why on earth do they suggest painkillers to mask the pain when there could be something serious going on? I'm trying hard not to scream now, as the rest of the family are asleep.

Give her our best wishes won't you?

Thanks Zand, will do. I think I should add she is only 25 years old, extremely fit ( Zumba instructor ) and no medical history or recent long haul flights.

How awful, Mo. Glad she is getting the treatment she needs now. Similar thing happened to a friend of mine and the doctors reckon it was caused by her contraceptive pill. Best wishes to you all.

Still not much better Zand. Just back from hospital. Saw a doc today who told us she will have lots of tests tomorrow. They think the clots possibly are a by product of bleeding kidney. Why her kidney is bleeding they don't know. She still can't walk and in lots of pain. We are just hoping she gets home for Xmas. We'll be back there at 9am tomorrow and hopefully a few of our questions will be answered.
On a separate note, there are 3 others in her little "ward" bit. All diabetic and all told nurses they have special dietary needs. All three so far have had sandwiches and cheesecake every day. Meat with mashed potato at night !

Thanks everyone for kind words and best wishes. Just home from Addenbrookes. They have kept her in for another night as she had a fever which may mean an infection. The clot busting drugs and warfarin will hopefully begin to work soon but been told it could be 6 months for the large clot to go. Still hoping she will be home for Xmas. She was certainly in less pain today which was good. The only worry is, despite many tests and scans, they have no clue why a young, fit girl should get these multiple clots. It may be that we'll never know. One of the consultants who saw her today was actually my diabetes consultant which was a coincidence, he specializes in the blood too.
