Eating Cold/Reheated Pasta Empty Eating Cold/Reheated Pasta

Post by Mud Island Dweller Thu Oct 16 2014, 08:42

This is sort of diabetes....bbc news app today say eating cold pasta raises bg a lot less than fresh cooked and reheating cold pasta raises it even less than the cold pasta.
lt was only based on bg tests every 15min for 2hrs so l want to know how long after you may hit the top of the curve.
This may well get lot of t2 who are trying to avoid or cut back eating pasta and drive up potential problems for them as they do not realise a curve may happen later

Yes MID. I thought that too. Also, I've thrown the bland, dull foods out of my diet. Surely trying to add them again would give me a taste for the rest of the high carb foods again? I don't really understand why anyone would want to add pasta back in again when there's plenty more nutritious alternatives to eat.

I bite pasta to check it is cooked for my son, but don't find the taste or texture enjoyable any more. Much prefer courgette spaghetti nowadays.

I actually think the difference in BG levels was not that much and my big fear now is many 1000's of diabetics up and down the country eating cold pizza and re-heated pasta. The people in the test were non diabetic remember. I would just say try it and test and see for yourself. We are intelligent enough to question things like this but I really fear for those not on a forum without a BG meter getting the wrong message.

Agree 100% and as I said on this forum yesterday, the misinformation mob elsewhere are already playing the confuse the newbies games re RS.

A comment made by a forum member elsewhere "The results on blood sugar test were pretty dramatic, much lower spike and a faster drop off. It basically half's the carbs"

If they had tried the test on non insulin using diabetics the spike would have been much higher, and taken much longer to get back to non diabetic BG numbers. This sort of misinformation, very often from people who do know better, sickens me. And so rarely are the anti's challenged. Which is understandable as so many who take on the clique have been banned. It was ever thus.

Aside from the blood sugar issues, reheated pasta is pretty vile stuff unless in a lasagne. It always clumps together in a gluey mass which is pro ankh exactly what happens with all pasta in your gut. No wonder I always felt bloated and as if I had a lead balloon in my tummy.
That being said, I must admit that I do better on a few chips from a pub chain than fresh ones from chippy and I guess they have been par cooked and refried. As ever I think it's a case if seeing what a food does to your meter readings and maintaining portion control as for me, it was the addictive qualities of carbs that got me here.

I've posted this elsewhere, so here's a copy. I started by thinking 'But who on earth would want to do that?' And finished here:-

Do you think maybe 'they' are trying to sell more ready meals by promoting reheating of carbs? It would make sense since the carbs are the cheapest bit of the ready meal, very few ready meals don't contain carbs and very many contain pasta. All this talk in the media about healthy eating and diabetes is probably hitting sales.
