Re: Bank Holiday's
I have been mostly glaring at the lawn hoping it would grow slower, and throwing out mealworms for the birdies. Blackbirds have fledged and are concealed around the garden under various shrubs. Maybe it'll be safe to go out again by tomorrow.

Re: Bank Holiday's
Once a lawn starts growing ...
There is no stopping it !
There was definitely the sound of some lawn mowers going near ours over the Easter Weekend ...
All is quiet today as the workers go back to work.
Next Bank Holiday will not be long though.
All the best Jan

Re: Bank Holiday's
Well the Bank Holiday has started very quietly and definitely has a relaxing feel.
A wonderful start to the day with our favourite (lower carb choice) Cumberland Sausages with tomatoes, mushrooms and poached egg, we also had a small slice of black pudding each 3g carb per slice.
I went 'decadent' and enjoyed two cups of tea
A little bit of Grand Prix watching as they battled it out for the qualifying rounds ...
And now the afternoon beckons, maybe I'll read a while.
Whatever your Bank Holiday plans ... have a good one.
All the best Jan

Andy ... Merlin is a sweetie, how can anyone resist those lovely eyes and cute nose
I had to go out earlier and ended up getting quite wet from a heavy downpour - I thought to myself well it is April and April is known for showers ... then I thought wait a minute it's May. This year is going too quickly.
Glad you got a game of golf in ...
Hope your week goes well

Re: Bank Holiday's
I thought with the late August Bank Holiday approaching I'd resurrect this thread ...
Then I saw the lovely pictures of Merlin, if you're looking in Andy, how is your new puppy doing?
We haven't made any plans for the Bank Holiday weekend, although family members have already booked the Friday before off in order to make it a four day weekend ...
We'll probably not go far, the traffic is usually abysmal.

Re: Bank Holiday's
Fish Van Man is off on his hols already. This means I'll have to make one of my semi-annual visits to the smokery in Orford. I'll make it before the actual Bank Holiday just to be on the safe side.
Yes like you two I tend to sneak off through some back lanes where the holiday hordes don't usually go and walk somewhere relatively obscure.

Re: Bank Holiday's
... and they're off! Well some folk are or soon will be!
Although for many I fear they will not be travelling fast, traffic jams are forecast, along with reasonable weather I think
Dare I say Happy Bank Holiday
Just waiting 'til the children are all back at school - then the pre Christmas season will start.
Enjoy the up-coming weekend

Re: Bank Holiday's
The weather's set fair for the bank holiday weekend going to enjoy it while it lasts, more or less up to date with the garden so might go for a walk round the country park on Sunday when they have a farmers market

Re: Bank Holiday's
What a beautiful sunny and warm Bank Holiday Sunday it is ... hope it's good weather wherever you may be.
Fantastic start to the day. Breakfast of Sainsbury's lower carb sausages, with mushrooms and eggs - yummy!
And now an exciting grand prix to watch...
An afternoon walk later maybe

Brilliant day here too and topped off with a good win for Lewis Hamilton who now matches Schumacher for the most poles, the race for the championship is still all to play for.

Re: Bank Holiday's
That looks like an excellent place - as long as it doesn't get too busy over the holiday weekend, mostly I tend to avoid "places known to the public"
My cousin came over for his annual visit - and to see two of his daughters over the border in Essex.
He usually chooses somewhere neither of us have ever been before, this time a little village out west called Hartest with a pub serving first class food - as many of them do. We had whitebait as a starter, battered and with their little eyes peering out so not to everyone's taste, eaten with our fingers, then I had smoked chicken, bacon, salady stuff and wheat "berries" which I hope wasn't too much wheat, while he had one of his vegetarian risottos, served on actual plates, not slates, roof tiles or anything else fashionable.
Then we strolled around the village looking at the architecture - fairly typical mix of Suffolk Pink cottages - which used to be made by adding pigs' blood to whitewash, but now you can buy it in B&Q - Dutch type features (we used to be part of the Hanseatic League) and huge chimneys which were a status symbol, and wood-framed buildings some of which were a tad non-rectangular, which happens over time - and a lot more thatch which is less common here in the east, and also the village church which was a bit less than average. Also poked our noses into a farm which had a collection of old implements and a steam engine, and looked at a bunch of cottage gardens, and the almost non-existent stream.
I was amazed how little traffic there was, and how relatively well-disciplined it was too, not always the case during holiday season. Got a bit lost as the buggers keep moving places around when I haven't been in the area for a long time, but after a bit of a detour which was picturesque anyway I eventually found the right place. Neither of us had a phone signal - I use Giffgaff (O2) which generally has the best coverage around these parts, but they let me down there.
Nice to finally see some sun WITHOUT a layer of cloud, that hasn't really happened since about June.
It was hardly like a Bank Holiday at all!

What a fabulous day ...
We didn't venture out, we avoided any traffic jams and just had a quiet day enjoying the sunshine.
The chicken dinner is almost ready and Eddie has poured me a chilled white wine.
Bliss

Re: Bank Holiday's
I went for a long walk over the farmland, along a level track with the advantage of a diesel bunker and liquid fertiliser tank near the beginning, which has a couple of concrete blocks just the right height for sitting on, then just before it goes downhill at the other end there are some nice grassy banks so I sat there in the glorious sun for a long time, watching various birdies, mostly some flocks of Linnets and some Goldfinches and other finches which amalgamated into a single flock of fifty or more, swooping down on the stubbles and flying up onto the trees and power lines.
My dinner was sausages and runner beans, and a glass of Malbec.

Fast forward to Easter 2018
Just spent a very enjoyable time with one of our sons ...
However, the weather is appalling rain, rain and yet more rain
Mind you I was glad we were not travelling on the M6 !
A swan caused quite a lot of traffic delay - yes honest
Stubborn swan closes lane on M6 by 'just chilling' on the motorway
Motorists have told of their surprise as they cleared a huge tailback on a motorway to discover the delay had been caused by a swan.
"Is this the most British thing ever?" asked one Londoner heading out of town for an Easter weekend getaway.
"We thought that lack of traffic was too good to be true until hit a slow patch... because a swan was chillin' on the motorway,"

Re: Bank Holiday's
Chucked it down all day here, just as well I got that extra walk in yesterday.
No swans on the road here, just pheasants. Those things are so stupid that eating them is doing them a favour.
