Not heard of anything like this before. Treatment is kidney based and works by removing excess glucose. Anyone read or heard anything on this ?

Their not new in the UK Mo been around for a couple of years, but like most T2 drugs they come with side effects.

"Sodium glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors decrease concentrations of plasma glucose by inhibiting proximal tubular reabsorption of glucose in the kidney.1 The favourable efficacy profile of these drugs in terms of glucose lowering and weight loss needs to be balanced against possible side-effects, including an increase in the frequency of treatment-emergent bone fractures reported in clinical studies. In a study2 in people with moderate renal impairment, 9·4% (8/85) of patients treated with 10 mg and 6·0% (5/83) of patients treated with 5 mg dapagliflozin had bone fractures over 104 weeks of follow-up, whereas no fractures were reported in patients receiving placebo."

It's like being a bulimic. Only instead of chucking the carbs up, you piss them out.
The main thing is you still get to binge on carbs. cheers

Time after time we hear of new type two wonder drugs. Almost without exception, they are expensive, carry many side effects and are almost useless in reducing BG numbers. Some such as Avandia and Actos have been banned for causing deaths in many diabetics. Others are under the spotlight for increasing cancer risks. Metformin has been used by millions of diabetics for decades, it is safe, reasonably effect and cost less than a tenner a month. Of course there is no patent on Metformin so very little money to be made, a bit like Aspirin or paracetamol, expensive over the counter pain killers are rarely any better, but cost ten times or more the money.
