Re: Check In and Chat - January 2015
Down to the South Coast for a few days later, maybe a swim in the sea. On second thoughts I'll give that a miss. I treat myself to a monster cod and a very small portion of chips once a month from a stunning fish and chip shop, and tonight's the night. It's just about the only take away grub from the old days, I am prepared to risk putting a few extra points on my BG meter for. When I was young I used to day dream and lust after women, now it's a once a month nosh up, is that sad or what. Another sign decrepitude has caught up with me.
Talk again soon folks.

Changed my mind, taking advantage of a proper sit down lunch on the train - "because you're worth it". Just had some scallops and my fillet steak is about to arrive ...

Did the fillet steak come up to scratch "was it worth it" Seriously though I love a nice fillet steak but it's a bit pricey so not on the menu as much as I'd like

I think I prefer a ribeye steak. Different taste I think. With a fried egg draped over it :-)

The fillet steak was very good, fortunately it's on expenses! What was equally as good was the braised cabbage served with it which was done with butter, cumin and seasoning. I had double portions of that because I didn't have the potatoes (obviously) or the broccoli (which I don't like).

Re: Check In and Chat - January 2015
Just checking in. I had a record breaking FBG this morning of 5.0. For dinner last night I had cauliflower in a very cheesy sauce followed by frozen blueberries and double cream whizzed to make instant ice cream.
On the down side, I've had a broken/cracked/bruised (?) rib for nearly a week now (I fell) and it hurts like hell when I try to sleep so I am a grumpy old bag. It also hurts when I laugh so avoiding hilarity is adding to my grumpiness. My injury did, however, give me immunity from a snowball fight at work today, so not all bad.

Me too Zand! My step dad knackered a rib once and said it took 18 months to clear up completely. The silly sausage was playing golf every week though which couldn't have helped. I will stay golf-free and mend quicker

Congrats on the FBG and hope your rib heals quickly. I've not had this type of injury but I hear it can be very painful !

Re: Check In and Chat - January 2015
Hi Avocado,
You think your rib hurts when you try and sleep or laugh - you just wait until you get a chesty cough! I've managed to fall onto my ribs a couple of times in the last few years, both times walking in the great outdoors. I'm afraid it does take a long time to completely go. For the first week or so, I slept with a pillow alongside me as a support, which helped a bit, beyond that, I can offer no advice, simply sympathise and wish you as speedy a recovery as possible.

Re: Check In and Chat - January 2015
First I hope 'Avocado S' is feeling a lot better and the ribs are healing.
BUT ...... can't believe it's the last day of January tomorrow - where has this month gone?
Has it been a good month? Are you pleased February starts on Sunday? Is time going more quickly - or is it just me who thinks that?
All the best Jan

Yes I am pleased it will soon be February. I have not enjoyed January at all. I was ill at the start at of it and am now ill at the end of it. I have only managed one decent walk in the whole month.

Oh AS my rhubarb is always a complete and utter failure If someone could remind me not to let the husband plant the beetroot seeds I would be really grateful. Last year not one grew. I think he put them in too deep.
@Andy12345 you sound just like my hubby.

My rhubarb has failed in the past. This time I will be building a slug-proof fortress

Re: Check In and Chat - January 2015
My hubby just likes to chop things down and pull them up when I have planted them. He likes everything to be square. Then when I finally taught him that flowers are not for pulling up a family of deer started to frequent our garden. They like pretty flowers, particularly red ones I don't plant many flowers now but I do enjoy seeing the deer from time to time. I'm sure the one we called Aston died though
