I expected it to be bad, but not this bad. If you had asked me those questions the moment I was diagnosed I think my answers would have been more use to another newbie than his. I did have the sense to put the leaflet from DUK straight in the bin when I got home from my GP anyway, I flicked through it and found 3 things I knew were wrong and decided the rest was probably rubbish too. Just like those answers. It's disgraceful that someone is paid to mislead others like this.

eddie1 wrote:eddie1 wrote:Question to the Doctor
"I am type 2 diabetic and want to know is: are statins really bad for diabetics?"
Answer
"If you like grapefruit, you should speak to your doctor as people taking certain statins should not consume grapefruit. The interaction between statins and grapefruit could also increase the effect of statins leading to a greater likelihood of experiencing side effects."
Neatly side stepped I reckon and about as much use as a rubber beak on a woodpecker.
Question
What should I be eating to keep BG numbers low and stay healthy.
Answer
Food
DCUK member says to the Doctor
"Well, thanks for not answering that one."
Just about sums up the whole fiasco I reckon.
Unbelievable ! Talk about avoid the question lol ! The OP never mentioned grapefruit or any other food. Utter farce !

Watching last night and reading comments by the members at the big one today, the Q and A session was an unmitigated disaster, arguably the biggest PR fail I have ever seen. One thing is for sure, It gave our blog a whole heap of material to comment on over the coming days. Many members were clearly disgusted with the performance of Doctor Hilary Jones and one member said
"Just read the facebook. What a complete waste of time. Opportunity lost. Some very mealy mouthed answers. Just imagined it as Dr. H with two DCUK heavies sat either side of him saying "you can't say that, we'll lose money. Say this instead"
You have to wonder is the Doctor so inept or has he been briefed to stick to the outdated dogma that has lead to the early deaths of millions of diabetics around the world. The sort of dogma big pharma loves to propagate to keep the money rolling in. We know DCUK are working to align with big pharma as reported by the low carb team on the blog. The chances of DCUK bringing in someone like the Southport Doctor, Dr. Katharine Morrison or Doctor Jay Wortman is nil and would wreck the DCUK managements chances of making money.
In short, the whole debacle was the most ignominious failure so far in the history of the forum, it shows what a complete shambles the outfit is. If the place was a forum for tiddlywinks players or an Ibiza ravers club no harm would have been done, but this is a health forum, the forum that likes to say often we are 'The Largest Diabetes Forum In Europe" and as such is a profound disgrace. This morning the management, the administrator, most of the mods, and the long term small anti clique should be hanging their heads in shame, no-doubt they will be thinking last nights macabre pantomime was a success. Will it ever be thus?

Giverny and the mods are running around like headless chickens today, if they put their heads together they couldn't form a log hut. To be fair to Giverny she is way way way out of her depth. Check out the forum administrator here. Not a diabetic, knows nothing about diabetes and not much about anything at her age. It's the owners and management I blame. They should be backing Giverny up, clearly they are not.

A true classic Andy, how long before you are banned permanently?, you certainly appear to be a marked man. Mind you, Roger 'Keto Warrior' Jenkins reckons until a low carber is permanently banned for life at the big one, he is not a true low carb warrior.

This is a response by a well known forum member on the crisp thread
"I think the biggest problem is palatability they are deliberately designed by the manufacturers to be 'moresome' .There is no doubt that some people eat too many especially if they eat them directly from a large packet.
I think it would have been a good idea to include something in his answer about this and advice such as weighing out a portion in advance , and eating as part of a meal rather than a snack."
Who would have a though it crisps are ok for us diabetics we just need to weigh out a portion as part of a meal

Bearing in mind how much damage is done at sustained levels of 9 or 10 one wonders about his subject knowledge!Avocado Sevenfold wrote:

Crickey. When I first visited my doc and said, "I think I have diabetes" she did a random afternoon test and I was 10 point something. I hit nine after my pneumonia jab and felt like death warmed up. Surely being that high cannot be healthy in the long term. No quality of life in the short time either. Glad he is not my doctor.

I still find it all very odd ! All evidence on the forum has been locked, questions were answered like a tap dancing politician on Question Time ! Bit of a PR failure but to be honest, it was always destined to turn out that way. He is a high profile GP, not even a specialist. There was never going to be any expert advice or controversy and I would guess his "questions" were filtered just as much as his answers. It's a bit like an episode of The Twilight Zone lol ! Did it happen ? Really ??
