i quite like the sniping at dcuk, i spent a lot of years and hours trying to save the world there and feel i was mistreated, although i maybe deserved it, i am not allowed to go there now so this reminds me of the arseholes like duggie and makes me smile

i should say the place literally saved my life, but it was not the management or the likes of duggie that did that so i figure they are fair game Smile

Derek wrote:You guys should get a life.  I've seen this sort of thing before with ex members of religious cults.

We do have a life Derek. Some of us here have used thousands of hours of our lives, trying to help diabetics to a safer place. Some of us here have been using our own money hosting a website for eight years. Members such as Graham, Andy, ChrisC, Mo, Paul and yours truly posted many thousands of useful posts on the forum of flog. All but Chris was banned, who stated over here recently "I left before they could ban me" None would have been banned on any other forum, except me maybe affraid  It has to be remembered the flog was anti low carb for years, until low carb started going mainstream. Clearly the management see a financial advantage in changing tack.

Shining a spotlight on the wreckers and the misinformation merchants goes beyond sniping. We know these oafs read our blog and this forum. In the past we have been successful in ridding the place of some of the worst offenders, and can prove it. I see duggie is doing his best to wind the members up on this thread. http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/waitrose-coffee-shop-madness.118843/page-4#post-1432410

"True, some on here to actively drive their cholesterol up.
That's a different choice to many of us, that prefer to keep cholesterol within the NHS guidelines."

"You'll have to read many of the fans of Kendrick, who believe high cholesterol is healthy, and eat to maintain a higher score, and actively advocate a higher target than the NHS guidelines"

Complete bullshit. All knowledgeable people know the way to lower trigs (often drastically) and raise the so called good cholesterol HDL is to lower sugar and carbs and increase natural fats to cover the calorie loss. Duggie makes it a regular feature of his posts to demonise healthy fats, and cause confusion for the poorly informed, and new members of the diabetes club. In short, the man is a menace, and has been for years.

This forum has very few rules, intelligent fair minded people don't need lot's of rules. The forum has not achieved what we had hoped for, we have few members who ever post, and the member count is small. But one thing we can be proud of, is the fact we allow freedom of speech, something the flog has never allowed. As for being "ex members of religious cults" can't argue with that. Some of us have been advancing the low carb cult for years, long before most of the high profile medical professionals, who have now joined the cult. As I say, some here have worked tirelessly for years for the cult, don't begrudge us a bit of sport winding up the naysayers, the misinformation merchants, and obvious trolls at the flog.

Post by Eddie Thu Apr 06 2017, 19:23

Hi Derek this is not my forum. The forum was started by Mo, Paul, Graham and myself none of us see it as our forum, all forums are the members, no members, no forum. I have only stayed with this forum out of loyalty to the few that do post here on a regular basis, especially my wife Jan. A non diabetic and never been overweight. We do not need a voice here, our blog gets over a 1000 page view reads a day, and our other sites have received millions of views. I have thousands of followers on twitter, including many healthcare professionals.

My main beef with the forum of flog has been well documented here on numerous occasions. I also regard the place as an exploitation outfit. A diabetes forum exploiting diabetics, a payday loan site, exploiting the financially disadvantaged, a dating site exploiting the lonely, getting the picture, all under the umbrella of sitefinders  http://www.sitefinders.co.uk/portfolio.html

Sitefinders boast “Each online property is a trusted, reliable resource for it's(sic) targeted market. No property is left behind; with each property quarterly monitored to ensure optimal performance for the user - which means better results for business and advertisers” The forum has done great good and continues to do so. But as I said earlier, a forum is the members, and the members have contributed almost all the help and assistance to those in trouble, those in need of sound unbiased information. Over the years the members at the forum of flog have been treated abysmally, no more than cannon fodder, next to no freedom of speech, and countless good people banned, or walked away in disgust.

As I said earlier, this forum has not achieved what we had hoped for. Has the sniping and negative banter stopped people joining, or posting, maybe, but, last time I and others here checked the flogs member list, the majority of posters had never posted, such is the nature of forums. This forum will last as long as people keep posting. It is my opinion forums in general have had their day. Forums were once one of the few places to learn about low carbing and controlling diabetes. These days we have huge sites such as Diet Doctor. Almost daily we see highly respected medical professionals appearing on TV and in the media, warning of the perils of sugar and highly processed carbohydrates. In short, the big guys have taken over the promotion of the low carb cause.

One last point, and this and other forums prove it. Place a good recipe or what I refer to as a Jan type Mary Poppins post, and the post rarely gets a response. Place a controversial post or a wind up, and the views go up, people get involved, and why they are over here, they also may pick up a few pointers on improving their diabetes control or diet, people are reading this forum.

Ask not what this forum can do for you, ask what can I do for this forum. OK, time to get me coat.

But we do have a life Derek thanks to the good advice we received years ago at the DCUK forum, people like duggie are only there to undermine the low carb WOE, many newly diagnosed newbies are going to be confused given his penchant for low fat high carb foods and claims of reversal

BTW we are ex members of DCUK which as far as I know is not a religious cult Laughing

One of the main reasons I left, apart from the sheer volume of posts and the large amount of bollocks, was their restriction on posting links. Frankly this breaks the whole point of the internet and was done for purely commercial reasons - to prove to their advertisers that they could keep their readers onsite.

I unfortunately have nothing interesting to say, nothing that can help anyone, this is the only forum I look at, for me getting older has meant not trying to make people like me, I find this stuff fun, the studies I find boring and don't read them, I actually agree this could turn people off, I tried avoiding it but apart from the regular few no one posted so now I see it as having a laugh with some online buddies, nothing more, nothing less, as for having a life, I feel like I'm squeezing two lives into the day, I wished I had less of a life and could rest more, this and every week I work 60 hours, I've played 6 rounds of golf in the last seven days, the day off, yesterday I swapped the round for a lesson, I only sleep about 3 or 4 hours a night, if I die at 60 I reckon I've had 90 years worth of life Smile I did however have a mate trying to convince me to become a Freemason yesterday, that's my closest brush with a cult, he lost me when the started talking about blindfolds and rolled up trouser legs, I'm saving the kinky stuff for the missus Smile

So, we are pretty much agreed lads. Until someone comes along looking for some help and sound advice, we carry on up the Kyber. Jeez Andy I did not realise the Masons had gone so down market, wise move to keep well clear of that lot. Don’t give me that working myself to death malarky, six rounds of golf in a week and time for a lesson, you're squeezing my melon mate.

Chris aka David Attenborough can keep educating us with his great wild life posts, no wonder he can afford all that mouth wateringly expensive grub. Jan can keep up her Mary Poppins routine, people say to me you're a lucky bastard, what a fantastic chef your Wife must be, I’ll say no more on that subject. Mo and Paul can retain their policy of zero interference, thread locking, banning and editing members posts. Graham, least said about that bloke the better. And I will carry on being a loose cannon, and keeping the activity from new members, down to a highly manageable level. Just look what happens when you have lots of members, bloody anarchy.

Did I miss anyone? Ah yes, the people who are not members of the low carb Hezbollah and never been part of a cult, thanks for sticking with us. Last but not least, thank you to our readers. People known as lurkers, I have never liked that term, who can blame anyone for not wanting to get too involved with this place. The joint is a lunatic asylum, and boy do I fit right in.  freakout

I learned a long time ago at the forum of flog, people want more than diabetic studies, trials and the latest doom and gloom. For many going down with a chronic disease (no cure) is understandably a big downer. Back in the old days at the flog there were some real comedians, many had sock puppet names, the forum management encouraged multiple user accounts, it upped the member count, and looked a good ploy for attracting advertisers.

I kid you not, the flog was better than anything on the tele for a good laugh. Who will forget characters like Greg Norman the hen pecked husband, Roger Keto Warrior Jenkins, Monty Beantipper, Kinky John Fowler et al. Most of the good stuff was deleted during Kenny boys reign of Stalinist terror. I remember a guy who was a staunchly anti fat merchant, far worse than Duggie or Sid. He took on Fergus. He argued that all vegetarian animals were slim and meat eating animals were fat. Fergus replied "I wait with baited breath for the arrival of the anorexic hippo's"

    Lest we forget Monty.

Monty first began to dabble in the black art of low-carb during his brave and splendid navy days, which were chiefly spent stalking the Norfolk coastline aboard HMS Bumrush. Having witnessed widespread deviant depravities amid the seamen, and deeply concerned about his own growing love of amateur dramatics, Monty became suspicious about the effects that the high-carb navy rations were having on the crew.

The final straw came when a late night session of "poop deck conga" turned particularly nasty, compelling Monty to seek refuge in carbohydrate restriction. With his inclination towards voting Liberal Democrat swiftly cured by ketosis, Monty promptly left the navy and was eventually washed up on the beach at Lowestoft. From that day forward, Monty's voting habits were staunchly Conservative. The kinky devil.

I just remembered a Duggie lookalike on usenet. He was a big fat biker who lost a lot of weight quite quickly, and like many such who "reversed" their diabetes I suspected he had probably been on steroids.

He pushed the low fat diet and exercise for all that it was worth, although strangely he never lost any more of his still excessive weight and had mediocre numbers at best.

During a discussion about Medicalert tags he said that he had gone for a bracelet rather than a neck chain because he might lose the latter if he crashed his bike and his head came off.

You Just Couldn't Make This Up.
