Are the Scots Following Duggie’s Road to Perdition? Empty Are the Scots Following Duggie’s Road to Perdition?

The appalling NHS statistics for blood glucose control in England and Wales have been presented many times on the Low Carb Diabetic blog. The question arises are the Scottish results as bad?

    From:

    http://www.diabetesinscotland.org.uk/Publications/SDS%202012.pdf

The report indicates that the % of diabetics with HbA1C > 7.5% (58 mmol/mol) has an increasing trend over 4 years  concluding in 2012 with Type 1: 78.5% and Type 2: 40.3%

A most telling comment in the report on page 3:

"The Survey reports that 39.3% of people with type 1 diabetes have poor glycaemic control."

This is the   % of Type 1 diabetics with HbA1C > 9.0%, Clearly they do not regard HbA1C > 7.5% (58 mmol/mol)  as out of control!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there a Scottish Duggie? What is the Scottish equivalent of Pot Noodles?

Despite living in the biggest health board region, I must live in a bubble as I don't know anyone else with diabetes.  My care so far has been ok...apart from my dietitian who needs locking up.

(How about a Tunnocks tea cake sandwiched between two square sausages.)

I know of just three others, a close friend for many years who was diagnosed LADA around ten years ago, she sadly passed away earlier this year it was not diabetes related. My brother in law was diagnosed T2 a couple of years ago like me no family history but he did have a quadruple bypass four years ago so could be a connection.

Then there was my late Mum who was diagnosed at the age of 93 she reckoned she "caught sugar diabetus off me"

I'll pass on the Tunnocks affraid

Is there a link between anti depressants and Diabetes? It's just that I've spent most of my adult life on one Anti depressant or another. Sad

Not sure about Type 1 but the dietician at my DESMOND course said that depression and anxiety and diabetes are linked, though whether that is causally has yet to be determined. Certainly I can see that the crap eating that my anxiety caused, dosing myself on carbs, will have exacerbated any familial tendency to type 2 and I am sure that my body being constantly awash with cortisol and adrenaline won't have helped my pancreatic function one jot.

I've been depressed for much of the last 18 years and have been type 2 diabetic for 3 years. Depression caused an inability to function properly which in turn caused me to eat junk food which in turn made me more depressed which caused more bad eating and less exercise and eventually type 2. Having said that I have gradually changed my diet over the last 10 years, changing one thing at a time and this has now evolved into LCHF. I have only recently started taking an anti depressant and wish I had done so years ago.
