Re: Ya gotta larf
"President Donald Trump's administration on Wednesday revoked landmark guidance to public schools letting transgender students use the bathrooms of their choice, reversing a signature initiative of former Democratic President Barack Obama.
Reversing the Obama guidelines stands to inflame passions in the latest conflict in America between believers in traditional values and social progressives, and is likely to prompt more of the street protests that followed Trump's Nov. 8 election."

And how quick the jokers get in on the act. Welcome to the mad house

Re: Ya gotta larf
Seems to me he is fixings the things that aren't broke and not the stuff that needs fixing
I'm not pretending to understand the whole transgender stuff but who gives a chit which toilets they use, when there are so many folks suffering he's worrying about stupid things like this

Here comes the new boss, same as the old boss. Actually I quite liked Obama but the Republicans would never let him do anything. Trump is proof that brain transplants have been done, clearly he was a donor.

Re: Ya gotta larf
Brexit and Trump are providing me with so much entertainment. Over at the failing Guardian and Independent the snowflakes haven't stopped bleating since the referendum. Trump is clearly having the time of his life winding up the likes of the BBC et al. It seems to me that the so called political correctness that has slowly engulfed us over the years has had some very unintended consequences. People are afraid to say what they really believe in public. Hence, the powers that be were so wrong about Brexit and Trump.
The big question is where will all this end? In pre-war Germany the Jews were persecuted for years before the war started and most people kept their mouths shut. The result was up to 50 million dead. All over Europe the far right are gaining more supporters, and the extreme left indirectly are encouraging the temperature to rise. This won't be ending well, how long before the concentration camps and huge civil unrest?
It seems to me the EU may well collapse before we even get out fully. What country will be out next? France, Holland, Italy, not to mention Greece. Interesting times ahead. Anyone else catch Nigel's speech? Say what you like about Nige, but boy that guy can work a crowd.
Have a nice weekend.

Re: Ya gotta larf
Whatever your opinion of Trump, the majority of what he is doing/done he actually said he wouldd do prior to the election. Sure, he's a bit showbiz and a wind up but the American voters can hardly be surprised ? As far as US Presidents go, he is by no means the worst. So many previous POTUS have been corrupt to the core.
I do worry about the growing World divide and the increase in so called "hate crimes" but I think Trump is being made a scapegoat. There are many, many reasons behind this and I am not even going to pretend I know them but the unrest in so many other Countries is palpable.
The future ? I don't have a clue, I just hope it will be peaceful. One thing I'm pretty confident in is that I can't see Trump lasting 4 years.
Farage I actually quite admire. Sure he's a smug caricature of the spoilt public schoolboy but a lot of what he says makes sense. I don't agree with everything but the media latch onto certain comments he makes and runs with them. They exaggerate and expand to sell stories.

Re: Ya gotta larf
Trump is like a caricature desperately trying to become a stereotype. Just what the Yanks deserve. Well not all of them, but really, the nation that gave us Woodstock and the internet is reduced to THIS???
I liked the crack that Mexico should pay for the Wall, and Canada should pay for one on their side, then the rest of the world could chip in for a lid.
Likewise whoever said that Tony Blair was just Margaret Thatcher in drag, and subsequently that David Cameron was Tony Blair in drag.
I should re-read Stand On Zanzibar and The Sheep Look Up, John Brunner predicted so much of this back in the sixties and seventies. About the only thing he missed was the massive increase in metabolic disease, he predicted antibiotic-resistant infections, cancer and pollution but diabetes/obesity wasn't on the radar back then.

I am I suppose a conservative, I really don't understand why labour supporters don't like Jeremy Corbyn, it seems to me he is preaching socialists values in the extreme, personally if I were inclined to be a lefty I think I'd love him, I don't get it

Re: Ya gotta larf
Yes well that's the problem, he reminds me of my youth with the like of Tony Benn and Ken Livingstone. The rest of the party knows full well that a socialist will never again be elected and are desperately trying to become Tories.
Reminds me of the old story about Gorbachev. He took his mother in law up country to his private dacha. They took his private limousine to the airport, flew to the nearest airport on his private jet and then he commandeered a military helicopter for the rest of the journey. As he showed her around his private estate and introduced her to all his staff, she said
"What will you do if the Reds come back?"

Some on here maybe familiar with the works of ex stand-up comedian Pat Condell. He is a regular on Twitter and other places. This gave me a chuckle today.

I had a sudden thought. Trump wakes up and can't tell what was real and what was just a dream (or a nightmare) so he tweets about it anyway.

Re: Ya gotta larf
A Pole told me this one which I suppose makes it socially acceptable.
During the war two Poles were walking down the street. They both had a stutter.
One suddenly shouted out
"Sh . . .sh . . .Stuka!"
"Wh . . .wh . . .where?"
"Gone!"
This happened again.
Then
"Sh . . .sh . . ."
"Wh . ..wh . . .where?"
"Tr . . .tr. . .trod in it!"
