    Unbelievable ! Why would they want to be as fat as pigs ? Was that the fashion in those days ?

    Probably as a weight gain aid as I imagine the poor in those days struggled to keep weight on.

    Think you may have hit the nail on the head with that Paul.

    Rather different from present day,when because of our high intake of sugars and starches, and perhaps a change in work patterns (not as labour intensive) a lot of people have become overweight.

    How times change and some of today's adverts very different.
