When Andy first raised this question the other day, I thought 'what a good question' and I've been doing a bit more pondering and reading...... so my thoughts are - with a lot of people here saying how good fage yogurt is I really feel I should try it, so I will be adding it to my shopping list.
However, it just goes to show how careful we shoppers and consumers have to be and always check labels for sugar/carb content especially if we are low carbers. In the US "yet another legal battle, Whole Foods is being accused of falsely labeling the ingredients in the grocer's 365 Everyday Value Plain Greek Yogurt.......
Plain Greek Yogurt is still nutritious and full of protein and calcium; however, correct labels regarding sugar is critically important for people that are diabetic."

Labelling is important and I'm also repeating what AliB said recently on the parasites and diabetes thread, hope you don't mind Ali - it gives us more to think about.
"I like the Fage Greek yoghurt too, but don't have it now, simply because there is only two strains of microbes in it. I would rather have something like Kefir which contains a much larger variety of microbes - between 30 & 50 different strains apparently.
The more varied the strains of gut bacteria, the more able they are to cope with different things.
Yoghurt has always been viewed as a healthy food, and REAL yoghurt undoubtedly is when it is made from raw milk and encompasses a far wider range of microbes as a result, but most of what is found on supermarket shelves is not real yoghurt.
They use a limited selection of microbial strains that give a soft palatable taste and not the lactic ones that make the tart taste. But it's the lactic bacteria that generates the most benefit nutritionally.
Most yoghurt these days is just a sweetened dessert. It bears no resemblance to real yoghurt at all."
......Interesting to read, but as always the choice comes down to each of us.
My grandchildren love yoghurt, with a few blueberries added, and they would eat bowls of it - if they were allowed to, but common sense prevails ...so I think it should with any foods.
For diabetics it is important to watch blood sugar numbers carefully. I'm not diabetic but I eat a LCHF menu plan of not more than 50 carbs a day ....so will look further into Fage but perhaps just one pot !
How about you
