No Andy, you try again. This time use a pencil or something thinner than your finger that only covers the white bit and not the darker bit of the top section as well. Then you will see that nothing changes.

What d'ya mean ? You're not speechless again are you? I don't like it when you're too quiet, I don't know what you're thinking. That's even scarier than knowing what you're thinking.

This effect is known in the world of science as complete bollocks. Did you know that down a coal mine with no lights, everything is the same colour. Try this for an experiment, cover the two squares with black gaffa tape and both squares disappear ! how freaky is that

Yep, colour and tone perception is a strange thing. On some of the railway modelling forums I frequent for my hobby you should see some of the discussions on representing colour in smaller scales. Does colour scale? Yes because you're not reproducing the lustre of the original and glossy finishes get duller with distance. Never represent white with white or black with black. Does colour fade with time? Yes, so does the colour sensitivity of your eyes, hence "I'm sure I remember that being a brighter shade in the 1940s". Does colour change with distance? Yes it gets bluer, hence those purple faraway hills.
Don't worry I'm going now ...

Rod, it's no good trying to educate us, others have tried. What ever you do, don't start talking about colour temperature.

I find this whole thing fascinating
On saying that, I spend an hour a day watching the washing machine spin, so it don't take a lot to fascinate me

what I find freaky is when you take your finger away, B becomes lighter again. Yet I know it's the same.mo1905 wrote:Yep, same colour ! Freaky !
