Right guys, I'm really not in the right frame of mind for this at the moment, but yeh sure I want to lose lots and lots of weight and get more active. I'm feeling pretty despondent about it and don't really know where to start, but when I feel I can, I'll start a thread in the members' journals section like the rest of you.

@eddie1 when I feel up to it I'll answer your questions then, now I'm going away to hide.

Hey Zand, we're only trying to encourage each other. If anyone doesn't want to participate or share progress, that's cool. There may only be 1 winner but there will be NO losers. If someone takes an extra 20min walk or loses 1lb, they win :-)

Of course it's not out of order to ask.  Rolling Eyes I would say that recently I have been having about 1200-1500 calories a day.  I've just looked back at an old post of mine to check what it was on a 'binge' day and that was about 2200 calories, but that doesn't happen often.  I found that I lost weight better on 1200 calories than on 600-800, and this has to be healthier too.   Carbs - well they vary.  My BG's are OK at around 60-80g a day.  I don't normally go over 100g and find that's OK occasionally.  However, I don't lose weight easily on that.  For a brief spell before Christmas I tried 20-30g carbs, with no calorie limit and the weight actually started to drop again.   I had a really bad cold though and couldn't sustain the 'diet'.

So that's what I want to do now.  20-30g carbs daily, no calorie counting at all.  It's a huge step for me because I have calorie counted for years and I've read (and told others!) that with LCHF it's the amount of fat that you can change to suit the individual and if you want to lose weight those are the calories you need to watch.   This may or may not work (!!) but I want to get into ketosis and stay there.  I think I have moved in and out of it for almost 3 years, and that's why my weight loss has been so slow.   I know that all calories are not equal, but I have a feeling that for me they are even more unequal.  Insulin resistance is still a big problem for me.

I really am not sure how much weight I want to lose altogether but it's between 70 - 98 lbs.  I won't know until I get there, and that's a long way off.

No alcohol for me next year at all.

I also want to walk or use my exercise bike for at least 30 minutes every day.  Last year I had a goal to be able to walk at least 12 miles so that I could walk a specific route with my family.  I did manage to walk 14 miles one day in May this year, but we never got around to going for that family walk, so that's a target again for next year.

Hi Zand I think the answer for you is in your above quoted post.

You say "I found that I lost weight better on 1200 calories than on 600-800, and this has to be healthier too." So it appears you should stick to 1200 calories per day. You also say "20-30g carbs, with no calorie limit and the weight actually started to drop again" So, if you stick to calorie control around 1200 and 20 to 30 carbs per day that may well be what you require to lose weight. You also said "I really am not sure how much weight I want to lose altogether but it's between 70 - 98 lbs." I reckon that is far too vague in my opinion, you have to have a target if you want make progress. This of course has to be achievable. I reckon a one pound weight loss per week should be your target. I reckon the amount of calories and carbs we are talking about it would be nigh on impossible not to lose weight. That being said you have to stick with the plan every day. Only weigh yourself once a week as weight can fluctuate from day to day and can be disheartening to see some days no change.

Exercise is great for general health and fitness, also helps with BG numbers, but not much good for losing weight in my opinion, unless we are talking about extreme physical activity. It also can bring on hunger and that can lead to eating above target levels. If you are going very low carb and need a calorie top up, go for fats not extra protein.

Why not try the above for one month starting on the second of January, I reckon it will work well, that is what I will be doing and it worked very well for me over six years ago. Start a diary in the journal forum and let us all now how you get on. One last thing, this is not a race, some of us will find it easy, some not so easy, who knows, I might struggle myself. One thing is for sure, if we don't try, and don't stick to the plan, we never achieve anything.

The very best of luck and good health to you and yours. Wishing you and yours a happy and peaceful New Year.

I'll set an initial total target for weight loss when I start my diary in the journal section, after I have weighed on January 2nd. I'll update my weight weekly, but sorry, I will be weighing daily Rolling Eyes I can't stop myself! lol

Having been so disappointed in my (lack of) weight loss for so many years, I am more concerned with simply sticking to the plan, if it works - fine, if not, I'll have to change it.

I'll start the exercise on Jan 1st and the diet on Jan 2nd.

Mo, spare me the old BS. I have seen what you have done on a rowing machine and your joint world record. That takes a man of iron will, as did Andy's marathon run.

I am still a man of excess Eddie. I've always been all or nothing. I have however scheduled another World Record attempt on the rower for Oct 2015. I'll bore you with the details later !

I want to lose another 2st this year. Preferably by April as I have a posh wedding do and a size 12 frock unworn in wardrobe!! I'd ideally like to shift a stone by Feb 21st as it's Mr E's 50th and it would be nice to feel confident enough to have my photo taken with him. I'm trying to do 30 minutes a day exercise on bike and aiming to do two days a week ( 3 if it is doable) on 800 cals to boost my metabolism as I've lost 5 st this year.

I might join you Ethyl on the 800 cal days albino

I would love to be able to say that my resolution is to turn our shed into a gym, but it will have to go on hold until we are less skint. So the plan is...pay off the car loan then turn the shed into a gym. (We had a gym in our married house and I was never fitter)

I did my first day on Monday ( was possibly nearer 900 cals as junior left some cold chicken I didn't want to waste, but I did peddle for over 25 minutes so should have burned it off) - it wasn't actually as hard as I thought though I did think about food more than I usually do. Going to do it again on Friday as I'm out then so away from foodie tempetations.

    Wow, that's brilliant.  sunny

A nice wedding to go to in April. I always think that's a nice time of year.

I see you've posted again re the 800 / 900 cals a day - but do let us know how things go.

                                         -------------------------------------------------------

I think it's good for us all to share experiences and journeys on our way to our New Year Resolutions.

Our targets should be attainable ones and not too out of reach, a little is better than none as my dear mum used to say.
