As you will see low carb thrashes low fat. Next time someone gives you a hard time or an argument send 'em this link. For many the weight loss is a bonus, it's BG numbers that are the most important to us diabetics. I was over weight for years before diagnosis, the weight did not bother me, the 26 mmol on my meter and HbA1c close to 12 frightened me s**tless.

Thanks that's a great link for me as I'm currently trying to switch from low carbing to very low carbing. I'll let you all know how I get on. Smile

When I lost 50 lbs in three months I was on 30 carbs per day and roughly 1300 calories. It was easy for me then as my BG was dangerously high. Burying my type two Father two weeks after my diagnosis focussed my attention. His last years were blighted by diabetic complications. When he died he was on insulin and ten different meds. Two days before he died I asked him what sort of BG numbers he was running he said "I like to keep 'em down to ten" even at that early stage in my diabetes I knew those numbers were very bad.

That's what makes this story even more tragic-in that I'm pretty sure your Dad was just following his HCP's advice down to the latter and was probably told that 10mmol was great control! Sad

I am desperate to lose weight now so I am definitely aiming for less than 30g (if not lower) so that I go into ketosis. This is the bit that is new to me. I learnt to low carb and bring my BG's into order fairly quickly and easily. I have lost 38lbs (in 30 weeks) not exactly a great weight loss but I have been trying for many years and never managed to lose any. Now it's time to stop messing around and really go for it.

He followed the medics to the letter as you said. Had I known what I know now long before he died, and told him, he would have reckoned I was talking out of my arse. To be fair, many think that now, ain't that a fact. The great thing about the low carb high fat way of life is no straight thinker has to trust us. Their BG meters, the reduction in medication, weight and waist size tells 'em we are talking sense. They only have to give it a try.

Fair play to you! Very Happy Less than 30 grams a day should get you comfortably into Ketosis although the first few days you will lose a lot of water and sodium(Due to reduced insulin levels I believe) and you may feel a bit peculiar so It's important to keep hydrated and make sure you're getting enough sodium in your diet, once you've adjusted to 'Fat burning mode' you should feel much better and energised and hopefully pleasantly surprised with the weight loss.
Good luck and keep us posted! Very Happy

Yes, very impatient lol ! You'll get there I'm sure. I've been really enjoying Professional Masterchef this year and can't help but notice the very top chefs use very little carbs, the bulk of the plate is fish/meat with veg and a sauce. Yes, occasionally there are a few carbs but certainly a small percentage of the meal as a whole.

Your easily on target to lose three stone this year Very Happy  that's a great result, bringing you weight down gradually is probably more sustainable in the long term.
