Diagnosing illness's and conditions can be a time consuming process of elimination and a little guesswork ( with some luck sometimes ). This can be costly, docs work to the clock and the cheque book unfortunately. Sometimes, treating signs/symptoms is all that's required, other times it's not. How many times to we hear of T2 diabetics who eventually fight for a GAD test or C-Pep test and discover they are T1 or LADA ? I've even read from those who have self funded these tests. It's a shame and very shortsighted but it's happening a lot.
