If you have been following any of the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee's meetings, you are aware that these next Guidelines will continue to promote the same nutritional advice that has proven largely ineffective for more than 35 years. We are creating a coalition of supporters to speak out against the direction the current 2015 Dietary Guidelines are taking and to offer an alternative approach.

Our targeted audience for the coalition is broad-based and includes scientists, health care practitioners, ranchers & farmers, health advocacy groups, etc. This letter will be delivered to the Secretaries of the U.S. Departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services, selected policymakers, and interested media outlets. We hope to add to the momentum that has been building in the national media and among lobbyists in D.C. to change the focus of the 2015 DGA.

The letter is copied below (with a link to the pdf as well). If you wish to sign on, please use this quick form to add your information to the letter.

I encourage you to forward this to friends and colleagues whom you feel may be interested in this issue.

    Thanks Yoly

This is another example of the effect of the dietary guidelines on school meals:

Restrictions for saturated fat and calories, but no limits for added sugars, can mean more carbs for school meals

New federal regulations requiring school meals to contain more whole grains, less saturated fat and more fruits and vegetables, while perhaps improving some aspects of the food being served at schools across the United States, may also be perpetuating eating habits linked to obesitydiabetes and other diet-related diseases, an analysis by Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health researchers has found
