The DCUK low carb antis have had a whip round and booked me an all expenses paid holiday in the sun. I checked out the Hotel. Why am I smelling a stitch up?

Don't forget the Ploughmans lunches,pork pies with crispy pastry,Ryvitas,chips,chinese takeaways and the dunking in the baths of 1Kcal spray oil...

Getting serious on the subject. Note that sign. "Honour Bound To Defend Freedom" Is that the sickest thing you ever read. A hell hole where men have been held for years with no access to Lawyers, no charges brought against the prisoners and no trial. What ever crimes these men may be guilty of, this is against all common law and fair and honest justice. These men should be tried in an open court, the whole ghastly situation taints all honest and fair minded people.

Very true! The term "Innocent until proven guilty" has NO relevance there whatsoever.

Totally agree but let's not pretend this sort of thing is confined to Guantanamo Bay. Most countries will detain suspected terrorists etc unlawfully and without fair access to lawyers or justice. This is a high profile military compound but there are many, many others.

I agree Mo. Murder, torture and terrible things go on all over the world. One of the many things us Brits can be proud of is the fact our legal system is the best and has been copied in many civilised and democratic countries. That being said I am appalled when I hear the UK has been involved with rendition and other illegal practises. There are no circumstances when torture is right. It is well known it does not work apart from being illegal and immoral. A man will say anything under torture and information gained cannot be relied upon, or convicted upon in an honest court of law.

I once read you can tell a great deal about a nation by the way it treats its prisoners, we have a long way to go. Our prisons have become a dumping ground for the mentally ill in tens of thousands of cases. It seems we can afford nuclear powered and armed submarines, but not the correct care for the most desperate and vulnerable.
