A new type of drug taken in addition to statins could reduce people’s risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes, a study suggests.

The one million Britons who have previously suffered heart attacks will particularly benefit from taking lipoprotein lipase enhancers (LLEs) in combination with statins to lower their cholesterol.

LLEs work by lowering levels of triglyceride, a potentially dangerous fat that can cause blood clots. They could also reduce blood glucose levels and the risk of diabetes, according to a preliminary study by the Medical Research Council (MRC). Scientists said their findings hold promise for clinicians and drug companies that are considering testing the efficacy of these novel drugs.

Heart disease is linked to more than a quarter of all deaths in the UK, according to estimates.

We know what happened when they used drugs to raise HDL don't we complete failure, a simple and safe effective way to reduce trigs just cut the carbs but of course there's no profit for big pharma

Interesting concept but I bet they will be expensive and probably more harmful than cutting carbs. At least they are finally looking at trigs after they failed with HDL, but IMO they are missing the point as usual in treating end results rather than looking for Root Causes (said in an Ivor Cummins accent).
