Dr Andreas Eenfeldt has also picked up on this article see here

As he says " Correction - Note that the ending of the MailOnline article is misleading."

I wonder how many will pick up on this?

    All the best Jan

Worries me how many people may lose out on good diabetic control due to the fear caused by articles such as this,we can see it for what it is but the newly diagnosed??-As a newbie this would have put the fear of god into me. Sad

Stay cool guys the best rated comment.

"WHAT A LOAD OF BS!! Ketoacidosis has NOTHING to do with Ketosis. There is nothing wrong with having just one potato a day. She's eating REAL FOOD! Food like eggs, fish, meat, vegetables, nuts and healthy fats like avocados. This is just propaganda forked out by the food industry who HATE the fact that people now know that processed carbs are BAD for us!"

The Daily Mail would sell their own Mothers to gain some mileage. It's a comic catering for the sheeple. Next week the low carb diet will be fantastic for all they will tell us, the week after it's a one way ticket to the knackers yard.

The first thing that struck me was this statement: ‘The primary diagnosis was thought to be ketoacidosis due to starvation induced by the LCHF diet,’ doctors writing in the journal.'

Since when has LCHF been a starvation diet, without knowing the full facts as scant information about her diet has been given it sounds more likely she has been on a very low calorie diet which would also be low in fat and protein.

Another thing was:  ‘If you have diabetes or are starving due to lack of carbohydrates, the body burns too much fat.' Starving only comes about by total calorie restriction nothing to do with lack of carbs alone

    Finally

'To the best of his knowledge, this is the first reported case in medical literature of a non-diabetic patient suffering from ketoacidosis while lactating, he said.'

Only one Shocked given the Mail's account it would seem that this case represents an epidemic so A&E's throughout the country should be swamped with skeletal ketogenic dieters suffering from ketoacidosis right  Rolling Eyes

Ketoacidosis is bought about by a chronic lack of insulin. Absolutely nothing to do with any diet or lack of any kind of food or in a starvation situation.
