As the title suggests, BBC News today states diabetes accounts for 10% of the entire NHS budget. Are we surprised ? They seem intent on pushing drugs rather than change dietary advice and then this :

It's all a giant ponzi scheme. You go after the BDA and they say diet for diabetics is nothing to do with us FACT as reported on another thread, they blame DUK. You go after DUK and they blame NICE. Check out NICE and many of the people making decisions on drugs have financial ties to big pharma. When you check out the Government you find parliamentarians coupled with the 142 Lords with the same interests, make a total of parliamentarians 206 with financial links to companies involved in healthcare as reported here http://socialinvestigations.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/compilation-of-parliamentary-financial.html

Just a few of the UK Black OP's outfits the Low Carb Team tracks. This list was complied some time ago, but I doubt if much has changed. The bottom line, big pharma and junk food, together with greedy politicians have a stranglehold on our health system. Diabetics are far and above the biggest cash cow, and the last thing these outfits want, is to lose money because people use diet and exercise nil/minimal medications to control their diabetes. Right down to some diabetes forums, the propaganda runs 24/7.

As low carbers were doing our bit to keep drugs to a minimum but the rise in the cost will never abate whilst a diet high in carbs is still advised for diabetics and NHS and DUK continue to promote the eatwell plate Twisted Evil .

Yes recommend the most profitable diet, then prescribe the most profitable drugs to deal with the damage from the diet. There was an old Science Fiction story by Fred Pohl (and Cyril Korbluth?) where the population ate a snack which made them thirsty for a drink that made them crave a cigarette that made them hungry again. It pretty much came true.
