Yes it used to be bad enough when we had all the "Back To School" promotions just after the summer holidays started. Now Christmas in August and Easter Eggs starting as soon as Christmas is over <sigh>

Well ... wouldn't it be dreadful if I said I'd already written my cards
No, of course I haven't but I did buy a few packs in the January sales
Talking with the grand-children when I told them it was only 146 days (or thereabouts) the reply was 'but that's a long time away ...'
Each age-group see the passage of time differently!
All the best Jan

With less than 100 days to go ... Christmas is just around the corner
Apparently (if you believe the hype!) this years Christmas must have is ... drum roll please!
Speak Out
" This Christmas' must-have game is already selling out
Speak Out game sells out after video goes viral: where can you buy it?"
The must-have toy this Christmas is set to be 'Speak Out', a game which gets players to say ridiculous things while wearing a mouthpiece, and the other players try to guess what they are saying. Sales have taken off since Katie Pryor, a mum from Macks Creek in Missouri played the game with her family, and a video was uploaded to the web. It has already been watched almost 39 million times.
The game is being called the 'Pie Face of 2016', after a similarly daft game became a sensation last Christmas. It looks like fun, and you might be tempted to buy it, but unfortunately, now that everyone wants to get hold of the game, Playpennies is warning that it's sold out in a number of stores, including Tesco Direct, Argos, The Entertainer, Very, Littlewoods, Ace and Gameseek.
Smyths toy stores sold out, and while they were initially taking pre-orders, they stopped after getting inundated with them. Toys R Us, meanwhile, is showing as out of stock for delivery, although some stores have it available for click and collect.
Playpennies has found it available at Studio, and Ali Express, although you will have to wait for delivery from China.
There are a few Amazon sellers offering the game, but they have already started cashing in on the fact it is hard to get hold of. The game has a recommended selling price of £19.99, and is up for sale for £39.99 or £76.99.
Likewise a number of eBay sellers are hoping to make money from the shortage of the game - with lots priced up to £100.
A number of people have even fashioned their own versions, pairing dental mouthpieces with home-made cards and have put them up for sale.
What can you do?
You have two options. The first is to wait and see. There are still three months to go before Christmas, and Speak Out fever has reached a peak. There's a reasonable chance that if you wait a month or two, the stores will have had time to re-stock, and you can get your hands on the game at a reasonable price.
Alternatively, you can bite the bullet, and buy one on eBay or Amazon at a higher price. This will at least guarantee you get your hands on the game.
Unfortunately, if you try to combine these approaches, you could come unstuck. If you wait and see for a couple of months, there is always the risk that stores don't manage to re-stock effectively. You will then be forced to turn to the resellers at a time where they know they have the upper hand, and the price will have risen accordingly.
But what do you think? Do you want to play, and would you be willing to pay over-the-odds for the must-have Christmas game?"
Story from here http://money.aol.co.uk/2016/09/19/this-christmas-must-have-game-is-already-selling-out/
... and our 'kids' still find it amazing that we were thrilled to get a satsuma wrapped in foil in our Christmas stockings ... I shudder to think what the grand-children would make of it.
Oh - how times have changed !!!

Would you believe it!
I've actually bought a couple of Christmas presents
Of course the very organised people would now wrap them, label them and put them away safely!
I can remember doing this one year and then completely forgetting that I'd wrapped them and put them away safely ...yes, too safely, in the Christmas rush I completely forgot about them
To help with the Christmas preparations ... dark evenings ... some may say any excuse!
I happened upon this recipe idea for 'Red Wine Hot Chocolate' what do you think?
I haven't tried it yet - just sharing the idea.
"INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 cup milk (I used 2%)
1 cup red wine (I used Kendall-Jackson Cabernet Sauvignon)
1/3 cup dark chocolate chunks
Optional: coconut whipped cream
INSTRUCTIONS
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine milk and chocolate chips. Whisking constantly until chocolate is melted into milk and you have a thick and creamy chocolate milk. Pour in red wine and heat until everything is hot. Pour into 2 mugs or 6-8 smaller glasses and top with coconut whipped cream.
MAKES 2 MUGS OR 6-8 SMALLER GLASSES
NOTES
This drink is RICH. So instead of just serving 2 (as shown in the pictures), I would recommended serving 6-8 in smaller glasses for sipping.
Recipe idea is from Kylie Held Mitchell ... here"

So when the recipe says I - it's Kylie's words!
I think she enjoyed it judging by the empty cup LOL!

Lots of Christmas Fairs, Mistletoe Fairs, Christmas Markets coming to a place near you soon!
Probably this weekend!
Our local Sainsbury's was doing quite a good trade on Christmas trees and Christmas lights today.
None in my shopping basket. but looking around (as you do!) there were some in shopping trolleys.
Now it's only 18th November so some folks are getting quite organised.

The nearer it gets to Christmas the more you hear the Christmas Songs when out shopping ...
Looking back, I can remember when cotton handkerchiefs were given as gifts for Christmas, some even had the persons initials on ... but then I am going back quite a few years here - nowadays everyone just uses throw away tissues!
I quite like being given novelty socks and there are plenty of those around

Yes ... so did I.
In fact it was either an orange or satsuma, and was so pleased to receive them because it meant Christmas had arrived
I believe that Terrys chocolate oranges are now a lot smaller than they used to be (as are Toblerone and Malteser's) good job we don't eat them any more.
I hope they don't start making the Lindt dark chocolate into smaller bars - for the same price!

Oh bless!
Yes I used to get the chocolate oranges too, preferably the dark chocolate ones.
After that thing with Tesco vs. Unilever I told someone I didn't have a single product from Unilever in the house and he didn't believe me - but as far as I can see I was telling the truth.

Santa may have to bring me a new phone, or at least a new SIM. I've been "searching for network" for a couple of days now. Well I'm not going to complain, it cost me about £70 14 years ago so I think I got my money's worth out of it.

They can put it next to my old strimmer which lasted about as long. Stihl.
Even in these throwaway days some things are still good value and well built. Mind you when we were young everything was built to last. Ever seen a stone hot water bottle? Or things that were passed down from your grandparents?
Even diets were good value and well built in those days. I've ended up eating much like my Gran, but without all the pastry and jam. Well I'm not in the WI.
