Very interesting blogpost by Dr Kendrick and hopefully he'll write some more on the subject.

Apparently it's not the insulin, it's the glucagon.

This is the video by Dr Unger he discusses:

No is both! Beta cells and Alpha Cells one producing insulin and the other glucagon are contra regulatory hormones. Both are linked and in a healthy person it keep blood glucose in a thigh range. Insulin reduces glucagon action. In diabetics they can have dysfunction of both. That why some benefit from metformin because there isn't enough insulin or the insulin is not suppressing glucagon production even when glucose is high. Producing the dawn phenomenon and liver dumps. Even do at least in rats they can live without insulin, beta cells and alpha cells are intertwine in the pancreas so when they lose the beta cells in pancreas they lose also the ability to regulate glucagon also. So is not really that simple, there is really nothing new in Dr.Hendrick post the glucagon role is diabetes is well establish. It was discover latter that why it may seem there is less attention to glucagon.
