Re: BG rise/fall questions
Sorry no. I don't read sites like this any more as most of them seem to be cranks. I will look at this one though as you are recommending it.

Re: BG rise/fall questions
Do you think after all the combined years the members here have we would be recommending cranks to people? Give us some credit, we may not know all the answers, but we certainly know who to keep away from.

These are our only rules here Beardie.
"We welcome all and encourage robust debate on any subject. We detest censorship, but please note ! we will not tolerate racial, religious hatred, homophobic, and overtly sexist posts of any kind. Any posts of this nature will be deleted and a warning issued, on subsequent events permanent banning will take place. Please keep posts and comments legal, and please remember, children may read this forum. Thank you."
That's all we need, If a member steps out of line, but stays within the above rules, just about every member is more than capable of putting the offender straight. Why there is so much grief on some forums is way beyond me.

Yep,love the basic rules here, they've served us well from the outset and they allow the forum to flow-like a forum should do without any 'Dinner ladies' stepping in every 5 minutes to chastise us like 6 year old kids!

Re: BG rise/fall questions
If you look back through history, the first thing a totalitarian despotic Government does is stifle freedom of speech. There can be no better example than Hitler's Germany. This lead to WW2 and the destruction of over 50 million people. This chilling quote from one of the most evil men that ever lived.
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” Joseph Goebbels

Yep, I see your point Beardie ! Regarding qualifications, I wouldn't place too much importance on them. The best advice is from the average Joe like yourself and me !

Re: BG rise/fall questions
Every time someone quotes the Christiansen study ( the one used by Jenny Ruhl in her article on "What is a Normal Blood Sugar": http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/16422495.php ) at the flog, Phoenix posts other studies on the same subject. I admit, I haven't really delved into the subject in any great depth, but the anecdotal evidence from people on forums who have tested friends, spouses, relatives, etc. seem to bear out Jenny's conclusions.
If I get time, I'll try and find the studies that Phoenix references and post them here.
Isn't also a reading of 14.0 for 2 random BG readings also considered a definitive diagnosis for Type 2? or am I recollecting wrongly?

Re: BG rise/fall questions
Hi Jill!
Reading the Phlaunt site it's 2 random readings of 11 mmol or above that are definitive of DM,about the same criteria as a @2 hrs venous reading after an OGTT test.

Re: BG rise/fall questions
One of the studies quoted by Phoenix: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2892065/?report=reader
I'm still not interested in spending extended periods of time above 7.8.

That's all any of us can strive to do,we may have 'Blips' where we don't achieve that but if we can for 99% of the time-We're doing alright I reckon!

Re: BG rise/fall questions
Many of my non diabetic friends and relatives are often higher after a meal than I am. (they ask me to test them) Obviously I don't eat the same as they do.

High BG levels after a meal is normal for diabetics and non-diabetics. Difference is, non-diabetics will soon be back in normal range without meds.

Re: BG rise/fall questions
Non -diabetics are at risk for heart disease with slightly elevated BG levels, that being the case then all the more reason for us as diabetics to keep our levels down.
Heart Disease Risk Increases With Even Slightly Elevated Blood Glucose Levels
It is not only diabetics who risk heart-related problems resulting from lifelong above-average blood glucose levels. New research from the University of Copenhagen shows that even a slightly elevated level of blood glucose in non-diabetic people results in a conspicuously greater risk of ischemic heart disease.
