I often wonder, what does a casual observer make of this forum. Diabetes is a very serious subject, countless millions have gone to an early grave because of diabetes. Yet over here it’s a high mirth lunatic asylum most of the time, I reckon I know the reason why. Most of us here are diabetics, but we control our diabetes, it does not control or define us.
Sure, it’s something we all could have done without, but there are a thousand and one other serious diseases we could have gone down with, many we could never have controlled. So, we have a lot of fun. Here is a classic example that had me falling off the sofa this afternoon. Paul is a young man who has been dealt a few very bad hands. Autism, cancer and diabetes, (Paul has stated this publicly) and yet a sense of humour that blows my brains out. I have spoke to Paul on the phone, and he is one very bright man. Paul as you know is a mod, and has made lots of little improvements to the forum, with little software tweaks. His latest mod is the little scrolling message that you can see welcoming people to sign up.
I sent him an email thanking him, with a spoof message that I thought could have been used in jest, he responded with the message below, my stars.
“Looking for a forum where everything in moderation is welcome and our NHS dieticians are appreciated for all they do for us? Then F**K OFF!”
Becoming a diabetic has given me more than it will take I reckon. For me it was a life saver, and dare I say it, one hell of a laugh, I just love the irony of it all. As Graham said the other day, seven years on and feeling no pain. Oh that all diabetics could have control of their diabetes and live a long, active, and complications free life, that’s our mission, and we are getting there.
Special thanks to Mo and Paul, a couple of guys that getting the mods badge, didn’t turn them into power drunk idiots, trying to make a name for themselves. We are a very small forum and I love it, great members with a sense of humour. It’s been a slow start, but hey, what’s the rush.
