Tax avoided by Boots over 6 years could have paid for 78,000 Nurses or 5 million ambulance call outs.

Nothing short of scandalous! The title of the thread is "tax avoided" by Boots - so I presume this is 'legal' tax avoidance and not illegal tax evasion? There are far too many loopholes in the law today allowing such outrageous schemes. I remember when tax avoidance was limited to such things as TESSAs (ISAs) and as such was simply good financial planning, not a way to 'legally defraud' the state out of £millions.

To quote Zand " Nothing short of scandalous! " and yet this goes on with so many different companies 'all legal of course' ???
It's time this 'loophole' was changed, and I would think most would agree it should be, especially when you look at the figures given in the title 'What Could Have Been Funded'
All the best Jan

This tax avoidance lark is getting big headlines but the fault doesn't lie with Boots in my opinion. They don't break the law, they use the law to their advantage, which is just what a large percentage of MP's, business leaders and celebrities have done for many years. It's the system that needs an overhaul. You could argue that companies have a moral obligation to cough up lots of tax but hand on heart, if you were the owner of a large business, wouldn't you want to pay the Gov't as little as possible but stay within the law ?

Agree 100%. The system is totally corrupt, just what our traitorous so called leaders want. We need a few swinging from lamp posts along the Thames Embankment, maybe a few IS type beheadings and a bit of crucifixion.
