Limiting food intake to 9-12 hours per day in mice was effective against high-fat, high-fructose and high-sucrose diets...

Researchers from the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California examined time-restricted feeding (TRF) which confines food access to 9–12 hr during the active phase using both lean and obese mice.

They tested TRF in mice under diverse nutritional challenges showing that TRF attenuated metabolic diseases arising from a variety of obesogenic diets, and that benefits were proportional to the fasting duration. Furthermore, protective effects were maintained even when TRF was temporarily interrupted by ad libitum access to food during weekends, a regimen particularly relevant to human lifestyle. Finally, TRF stabilized and reversed the progression of metabolic diseases in mice with preexisting obesity and type 2 diabetes.

The researchers concluded that they had established clinically relevant parameters of TRF for preventing and treating obesity and metabolic disorders, including type 2 diabetes, hepatic steatosis, and hypercholesterolemia.

Just a thought, and I appreciate I'm not a diabetic, but just wondered ..... do fellow members follow a fairly strict timed eating theme during the day? Some may only have two main meals a day where others may prefer four smaller meals. How does this effect your blood sugar readings?

    Thanks

Having a reduced window for eating is one of the best way to loose weight. You usually eat less in the reduced window if you are doing LCHF. I don't need to loose weight now so I don't do it anymore(I never been obese). One has to be careful if you loose weight to quickly you can raise uric acid levels and get a gout attack. Is also not healthy since you are renewing a lot of your cells too quickly, creating a burden in your liver, etc.

What I try now is not to snack, give enough time between meals so that the body has time to use his energy reserves and repair. That helps the pancreas function on a more stable way and sustain better blood glucose control 24hrs.

Hello Davey and welcome to our Forum sunny

I usually eat three meals per day and aim for between 30 to 50 carbs per day.

Look forward to more of your posts.

I think if anyone is trying to lose weight ......is it not better to do it slowly ......it's perhaps safer ?

Also does snacking help or hinder?

Perhaps a low carb snack of pepper sticks, cheese, celery may be acceptable ?

    Any thoughts Question

Every time you eat you create inflammation in your body, your digestive system has to work hard to digest your food and your blood sugars rise a small amount or a large amount depending on what you eat. If you eat several meals a day with snacks your digestive system has no time to rest. Eating once or twice a day with no snacks is the ideal if you have your blood sugars under control. I'm certainly not a doctor but this is what I have gleaned from all the low-carb literature I've read.

I often read in the news that it's better to eat little and often, 7 or 8 small meals a day. I think eating 3 large meals a day can put the body under undue stress. This is just my opinion, nothing scientific !

I was advised by a nutritionist to eat little and often with no more than a two hour gap between meals and snacks. Despite making sure that the snacks were healthy ones it didn’t work for me. So I tend to agree with the OP. (I am type 2). I stick to 2 or sometimes 3 meals a day now and find this is better for my BG’s and weight loss too.
