A new study, published in the journal BMJ, finds that switching to a class of drugs called sulfonylureas could raise the risk of complications for people living with type 2 diabetes.

Have not read the study and certainly metformin is safer and has more benefit than sulfonylureas. But how can they account that most diabetic that are switch are because metformin alone can no longer can control their diabetes. They have worst control that is not really control but none the less.

Till the benefits of low carb for diabetes is universally accepted I'm afraid these drugs will still be widely prescribed

    And just below this article

They really haven't grasped what has now been proved by thousands of N=1s.

Sulphs always used to be #2 drug to be added after metformin as the diabetes progressed in the expected way. Previously they were slated for burning out the beta cells quicker by forcing the overproduction of insulin. Presumably the CV risk comes from the excess insulin required to eat the excess carbs.
