Almost all men over 60 and women over 75 should be eligible for statins, according to a new analysis.

After examining guidance on which patients should be offered statin therapy, researchers calculated 11.8 million English adults are eligible for the cholesterol-lowering drugs.

Meanwhile this conclusion from a new study

Effect of Statin Treatment vs Usual Care on Primary Cardiovascular Prevention Among Older Adults
    The ALLHAT-LLT Randomized Clinical Trial

Conclusions and Relevance  No benefit was found when pravastatin was given for primary prevention to older adults with moderate hyperlipidemia and hypertension, and a nonsignificant direction toward increased all-cause mortality with pravastatin was observed among adults 75 years and older.

Oh FFS! Has anyone EVER shown any health improvement for statins in women?

I could be wrong but I think ALLHAT was one of the studies NOT funded by statin manfacturers so more likely to be realistic.
