Very well deserved award indeed and I hope the early naysayers on the flog (and we and they know who they are) who implied the good doc was a "Low carb troll" have egg on their face and feel pretty stupid right now!

Yeah, no names no pack drill, but that tosser is still a member (albeit hiding in the shadows these days) while so many low carbers got banned for telling the truth. And then, the flog management jump on the band wagon, like they invented the concept. Ya gotta larf. Any justice and the forum owners should hang their heads in shame, but hey, they are exploiters and users, anything for a fast buck merchants. This is a fact, as I have told them many times.
Jeez, I almost had that mob out of my head.

Given that Dr Unwin is promoting Low Carb which goes against the official NHS guidelines this is indeed a brilliant achievement.
And he's also in the running for a BMJ award

When I first discovered low carbing for diabetes control and witnessed all the negativity aimed at the regime I just resigned myself that it could be literally decades before we saw it being recognised in the positive light like we're seeing just now with Dr Unwins award as just one good example...Bloody brilliant I say!!

The most ludicrous and unbelievable thing in all this, all we ever encouraged people to do is eat whole fresh food. To abandon the foods that make people ill, high sugar and factory made highly processed carbohydrate foods. How hard the antis fought to play the shills, for junk food and big pharma junk and dangerous drugs.
We have won, of that, there is no doubt. I have very little else to say, I hang around out of loyalty to my friends. To be honest I never ever thought the change would come in my lifetime. But the change has come, people are wising up. How long before the likes of the BDA, DUK etc. follow suit? Probably when the money stops rolling in, how these people sleep is beyond me. I will never ever forgive them, for sending millions to an early and painful grave.

How strange that all the anti's had nothing to say about this at the flog ! Great to see this and a BIG step forward for us all ! Soon, the Earth will go from flat to spherical, trust me, it's the future, I've seen it :-)

More about Dr Unwin from the Southport local press
Still no sign of congratulations coming from Sid Sour grapes
A Southport doctor is celebrating after being named NHS innovator of the year at the NHS awards in London.
Dr David Unwin, 57, of Norwood Surgery, was given the accolade on Tuesday night, after beating off competition from doctors around the country.
Dr Unwin was up against 10 other regional finalists, but emerged victorious because of his work with diabetes patients.
For the past three years Dr Unwin and his team have worked to motivate diabetes patients to change to low carb diets to improve their condition.
The practise have published four papers on the subject, with one paper classed in the top 5% of the British Medical Journal's most popular articles.
Cases of diabetes among the practise's 9,000 patients have drastically improved, meaning less needs to be spent on these drugs by the taxpayer.
Dr Unwin said: "I am absolutely thrilled to win this award, being up against ten others and looking around the room at the talent that was there I didn't think I had a very strong chance of winning at all.
"When my name was called I was overwhelmed, it's the most prestigious award I think I will ever win."
Dr Unwin has been with Norwood Surgery for 30 years and during that time has won several other awards.
He was named GP of the Year in the Mersey Region in 2012 and the surgery won the Team Practise of the year for the Mersey region in 2013.
The team were also finalists for the BMJ primary care team of the year in 2014.

Couldn't happen to a nicer fellow!
What with this following Aseem Malhotra in Debretts there should be some dieticians with egg on their faces, except they wouldn't eat eggs because of all that cholesterol . . .

Yep there is more Docs and other HCPs getting on board, getting LC accepted especially in the treatment of diabetes has been a slow progress but in the last two to three years there has been a big shift still a long way though

I see things heading in both directions at once. More and more patients, not just diabetics, and also members of the fitness community and actual athletes, are coming on board, and the quantity of valid research is becoming too vast to ignore.
At the same time The Authorities, especially dieticians, are becoming more entrenched in their dogma. They smell the loss of sponsorship from all the profits of the Foodlike Substance Manufacturing Industry.
