Re: Dr Robert C Atkins
Thanks yoly. I started out by following the Atkins induction diet and am still essentially on it. This lecture shows that Dr Atkins was more into general health than just weight loss.
I recommend that everyone should watch it.

Re: Dr Robert C Atkins
Thanks yoly not seen that video before, the much maligned Dr Atkins work in promoting low carb diets has been vindicated by the events of the last few years. The low fat approach is not working as many recent studies have shown, "the times they are a changing" to quote the Bob Dylan song

Those smear campaigns really work. When I first heard of him when younger always thought he was some sort of celebrity doctor with no science promoting a fad diet. But wow was he right, I can see now how a cardiologist on the peak of fat phobia promoting a LCHF diet in a very articulate way, no wonder make the establishment so mad.
Too bad the younger generation will only hear his name in association with junk food products.

You're not alone, I believe Eric Westman got his start in research because he refused to believe Atkins could be right and set out to prove this.yoly wrote:Those smear campaigns really work. Of course he proved that Atkins was spot on, and the rest is history.

I am not one of the younger ones, yet I too was afraid to mention that I was following Dr. Aktins' induction diet because it seemed that he had been effectively discredited by his association with junk foods and the story that when he died he was extremely overweight. So I am glad that I watched his 2000 lecture.
We need to remember that humans are a herd animal, and we are supposed to follow our leaders. It is just like when we herd cattle or sheep, we round up all the strays and force them into compliance. Step out of line and humans too will be coerced to get in line.
We are somewhat lucky that harsh means of enforcement are not acceptable in the internet age. Still just try being a professional with a career and see what will happen to you when you continue to express an opinion outside of the mainstream. It seems that you can only be a maverick if you have alternative means of support.

Re: Dr Robert C Atkins
Finally found time to watch this, what a revelation - especially how long ago many of the studies he quotes were done, and how little impact they had at the time.
