In the UK the most vociferous champion of statin drugs is Sir Rory Collins. Rory tells us how wonderful they are, and has said on many occasions, the side effects are minimal. Well Rory should know, he sits on the largest pile of statin data in the UK, some say in all the entire world. Over the years Rory's outfit has received over £200 million from big pharma for his research. Decide for yourself if that sort of wonga could turn a man's head. Anyway, back to the complications and health destroying side effects of statin drugs. Clearly with Rory's monumental data bank and knowledge, he must know all about the downside of stains. Well, it turns out he has not got a clue, yes you read that right, but fear not my friends, he is to undergo a full investigation err...by himself. Check this out.

"Professor Sir Rory Collins, the austere director of the institute in Oxford that produce much of the evidence supporting the increasing use of cholesterol –lowering statins, is in hot water once more. Last week he declared that he intended to investigate himself.

What needed investigating was his own admission a few months ago that his unit – the CTT (Cholesterol Trialists Collaboration) – hadn’t actually done any research to establish the level of damaging side-effects of the drugs even though he had been claiming for over a decade that they were negligible. Senior medical figures, such as the editor of the BMJ, are outraged."

    My bold text.

Of course when big pharma is involved the unbelievable is very often the norm.
