    Out shopping earlier I topped up my herb store. Fresh herbs are best but I also keep a few dried herbs in the cupboard. I haven't tried the herb pots I suspect they may be slightly carby?

    As a child I can remember my dear mum picking fresh herbs from the garden ......and the mint sauce on the Sunday Roast Lamb tasted so good. Memories of happy family dinner times all good.

    Do you use herbs, what is your favourite?

    With Autumn getting nearer one of my favourites at this time of year is Oregano. It is fantastic with a range of vegetable dishes such as stuffed peppers, roasted tomatoes and courgettes, aubergines and if you also add a nice piece of goats cheese even better.

    How about you, what is your favourite?

    Tough one that Jan...Hmmm...I would also say Oregano with any tomato based dishes and Basil which I add finely chopped into my homemade burger mix(I've managed to grow basil in my garden this year) Curly Parsley from the garden on the side with a nice steak or in a chicken sauce or soup,Coriander to garnish my homemade curries (I have to buy that though sadly-I can't grow it),Tarragon I also buy a fresh sprig as I like the Aniseedy flavour in chicken and cream based dishes,then there's my mint from the garden for mint sauce and my Rosemary shrub that's doing well which I use with my lamb or I add to stews in the winter and finally my sage...Well that's doing really well and I have an abundance of it so I stuff my chickens full of it before roasting and also in soups or boiled up with Turkey giblets and some other veggies as a stock basis for my christmas dinner gravy. Smile

    Sounds a great mix Paul. You are fortunate to have a garden to grow them in. My son and his girlfriend used to grow them in a window box from one of their balconies (they lived in a flat at the time) she is great at mixing herbs and her food tastes great.

    Definitely dill. Nothing else will do when cooking salmon.just dill, salt and pepper. Then steaming it. Yum. We had this for dinner today.

    I like thyme and sage. Chicken casserole with lots of garlic and thyme and splash of white wine... Mmmm. I like pork chops done in slow cooker with lots of sage, onions and splash cyder vinegar ( used to use apple juice but the vinegar imparts same flavour) and small chopped apple. Lovely with savoy cabbage and cauli cheese.

    Are on the short list, but I think it has to be GARLIC

    When I was younger I had a favourite herb but gave it all up now !

    I have a rosemary bush in the garden. Had it for years so you would think I would be used to it, but no. Every time I smell it, I say, "Wow!"

    I couldn't agree more with many who have found it so hard to list just one herb as their favourite - we have so many to choose from.

    Take tonight's dinner for instance - we have salmon cooked in the oven with a garnish of roasted tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and basil ...... now I could have used something else (maybe) but I thought basil would taste good.

    How long 'til dinner ?

    Friends of mine have always named their cats after herbs. The current two are Tarragon and Borage bounce

    Hi Rod

    I think Tarragon is used in quite a few traditional French food dishes and dates back to 500 BC.

    Borage (also known as a Starflower) is a very pretty herb/plant and many chefs use the flower in their cooking too. I've not yet eaten a flower in part of any of my meals but I know many well known chefs do.

    Herbs are great to include in your cooking. Are your friends into cooking with herbs I wonder ?
