I started decorating our flat today, starting with the bathroom. I intend to re-decorate the whole place during the next month. For donkeys years we paid tradesmen to do up our houses, but these days we can think of better ways to spend serious dosh. The only downside, eight hours manual labour has very near croaked me, I can't remember the last time I did a proper days work.

Oh and BTW another downside, 8.5 on my BG meter half an hour ago, the highest number in a very long time, normally 8 hours after eating I would expect to see mid fives at worse. This working lark will be the end of me. Jan just said to me "I couldn't have done what you have done today" probably just as well, or I might of headed out to the lakes tomorrow and let her get on with it.

Seriously, I get away with murder and Jan looks after me too well, as I often say to her, you can't do enough for a good man, am I right, or am I right fella's?

PS...I know what you mean about painting and decorating, some folks find it therapeutic-Not me!!! I'd rather empty septic tanks for a living then decorate! freakout

I always start with good intentions Paul. Rubbing down the skirting, sandpaper, sugar soap etc. After a couple of hours, I'm literally painting over spiders lol !

I know what you mean, but our gaff was beginning to look like a septic tank. To be honest, I find manual work very therapeutic and satisfying, especially when you can see the results of your work as each day passes. I used to love gardening, we once had a very large house and a garden 200 feet long, and I loved getting it tip top around this time of year. Once the kids left home it seemed it was time to let it go, we had an eye watering mortgage on it, then I got the betus and a heart problem, and we thought get shot and slow down, it was not worth killing myself for.

Now it's a very simple life, a modest roof over our heads, great grub and a bottle of wine, if we can keep that, we ask for nothing more. You have to become ill, to realise how important life is and how unimportant material things are. Luckily I found out before it was too late.

    Luv it!

For what it is worth, just checked the BG after some cheese, olives and a glass of wine, BG 5.2. I probably went too long with no food and too much graft, probably a big liver dump. One thing is for sure, you can't cheat the betus. affraid

Well another beautiful Spring Day, which has gone far too quickly. The blossom trees are looking great.

My big quest for today was buying cocktail sticks! They are just so handy for olives ...... but could I get any? No I couldn't  affraid  I could get cocktail forks, cocktail straws but alas the ordinary cocktail stick was no-where to be seen. I'm still on the case  lol!

Pleased to hear your spring is getting there.
We had our first night of single figures last night, got down to 9 Degrees Centigrade, a sure sign that winter is on the way.
First Frost will be here in a week or so, but we have had a great Summer Very Happy

Just discovered a water based, timber treatment paint.
Great stuff, so easy to clean up brushed, almost no smell, and dries in 4 hours.
Unfortunately Locally manufactured and pretty costly but what a pleasure

yes, at just under 6000 feet in Johannesburg.
We get frost for about 3 months in winter, and in Sixty odd years I can remember snow about 5 times, only once a few feet of it, usually more sleet than snow.
But for the other 9 months I think we have one of the best climates going for us Very Happy

And so to Sport ........ glad Lewis Hamilton won the Grand Prix yesterday. I'm also glad to see that young Jordan Spieth kept his lead, and went on to win the Master's Golf in Augusta. What a lovely young man and his family were there to see his achievement too. I'm also glad Justin Rose and Phil Mickelson tied second and Rory McIroy was 4th. Already got the British Open in the diary!

Hope your Monday is going well - the grandchildren have gone to the Farm today they were so excited, when they were telling me about it. I just love the exuberance of the young ... long may it continue! sunny
