The financial costs of diabetes Empty The financial costs of diabetes

The most comprehensive analysis to date concludes that the cost of diabetes to the NHS is £9.8bn in direct costs in 2010/11 with £1bn for Type 1 and £8.8bn for Type 2 .

Around 80 per cent is spent on complications.

The largest costs for complications are excess inpatient days, cardiovascular disease and damaged kidneys

    and nerves

Assuming there is no inflation, costs will rise to £16.9 billion in 2035/36

I'll read it properly later, but at least it refers positively to the XPert course under education, hopefully the new Trudi Deakin message will have more influence. And the value of having meters and unlimited (well not arbitrary) strips being issued to T2s appears to be recognised.

I didn't see anything saying "It's the carbs, stupid" or similar though.

The members here have saved the NHS a small fortune, do we get thanked? lol! lol! lol!

No, we get "well if it works for you stick with it". Some people on some diabetes forums get banned, deleted, edited and thread locked.

I wouldn't have it any other way. jimlad
