These next words are Dr Katharine Morrison:

"In this article Kris Kresser discusses the downside to these very commonly prescribed drugs. In my own practice many people take these for acid reflux, if they are on aspirin or non steroidal anti inflammatories, or if they have pain located to the stomach area. Easy to start and I agree with Kris, very hard to get off. Particularly for acid reflux, a low carb diet such as we advocate on our diabetes diet site, can work wonders without the side effects."

PPI's have been a known killer for a long time. Time after time I have read of people going low carb higher fat and dumping acid reflux drugs permanently within a few weeks. The bottom line, eat whole fresh real food. This ain't rocket science, it's just plain old common sense. You can't eat highly processed junk food and think you can get away with it long term. Time waits for no man or woman, and over time we all pay a price. We can pig out eating junk, but the reality is we are really starving when it comes to the essential nutrients we need for good health. As so often, less can be much more. but the right food choices are essential, especially for a diabetic. Not a lot of dietitians know that.
