Wetherspoon to be first pub chain to tell customers how many calories are in their drinks Empty Wetherspoon to be first pub chain to tell customers how many calories are in their drinks

Pub-goers will soon learn how many pounds they are piling on while they are sinking pints.

Wetherspoon has confirmed it is to become the first pub chain in the country to tell punters how many calories their drinks contain.

The company already tells customers how many calories are in the meals but drinkers will now know just how much they are consuming when boozing too.

Health bosses have long warned that alcohol is a significant factor behind rising levels of obesity and medical studies have shown alcohol is often followed by overeating.

Drinkers may not take kindly to learning a pint of lager is around 230 calories, a beer around 200 and a glass of red wine a similar amount.

And just how many beer drinkers will give a damn  beer

I don't think I've ever set foot in a Weatherspoons ... and I'm not too sure how many will take the number of 'drink calories' into account when enjoying their beer or wine, but I guess some may.

    All the best Jan
