Gluten Free Junk Food on the NHS

Interesting article in the Daily Fail.

If it's true (?), I'd have to agree though - why should taxpayers be paying for gluten-free junk food for carboholics? Let them eat real gluten free food, I say (shades of Marie Antoinette):

If the piece had been dated 1st April, I would have laughed. Let's hope it's not true.

This story may be true and there is no doubt much money could be saved by the NHS. But a little over a year ago a panel of international judges rated the NHS as the best healthcare system in the world. It is a fact some horror stories have been brought to light in recent years but it is still the best. We hear a story about bad news, but people forget about the hundreds of thousands of people that are treated very well every day of the year. So, what is this all about. It is because this Government want to sell and privatise the NHS plain and simple. The media almost all behind this scheme rubbish the NHS at every opportunity. This way the people will come to believe the NHS will be better under a privatised system. In my opinion Jeremy Hunt should be arrested as a traitor to the country. Imagine the MD of a company rubbishing it a every opportunity or a General rubbishing his Army non stop, they would be fired in no time.

Check out how much is spent in the US and their privatised healthcare system is not as good as ours by a very long way.

Sadly the NHS has learned from the worst of the American HMOs/insurance companies just as they have learned from the NHS.

Agree the push is for privatisation whatever the cost.

Back in the day, my father and one of his brothers worked for the NHS from its inception until they retired. In their day "admin" worked FOR the doctors. Now all the decisions are made by an army of Deputy Chief Assistant Undermanagers and accounting clerks and doctors are told to obey.

I suspect killing off PCTs and replacing them with CCGs which are supposedly run by GPs is a way of further dicrediting decision making by medically qualified people - when they fail the GPs will be blamed, not the clerks who have cut their budget.

A lot of papers and media outfits have jumped on this story over the last few days and they may well be right. What seems strange to me, is no one says the same thing about spending infinitely more money on drugs for type two diabetics, so they can carry on eating junk. What's the difference? I can't see it. Imagine the conversation with your Doctor. Help me Doc when I eat doughnuts, pizza, bread and pasta my BG goes through the roof. Don't worry Mr. Patient have a bag of drugs. Great Doc will that lot cure me, no way, but you can carry on eating junk. What about side effects Doc? Next patient please.
