    Cabbage Empty Cabbage

    Throughout my life, I couldn't understand why people considered cabbage edible, once I saw the light and became a veggie lover, cabbage is a huge part of my life, to the extent I could eat it as a stand alone meal, I can't get enough of the stuff.

    Do you know is there any truth in the darker the cabbage the healthier it is?

    I know there is more iron in darker cabbage. I guess that must be a good thing. My Mrs is a veggie so can lack in iron, dark greens help.
    I love cabbage too, well, greens really. I'm not too keen on lighter stuff.

    I used to hate cabbage with a passion as I was given the 'orrible white cabbage as a kid which I still hate BUT I do love the dark green Savoy cabbage and from what I've read over the years is that when it comes to leafy veg-The darker green-the better! Smile

    My wife was told this week her iron levels were too high Shocked weird as my daughter takes pills for low iron, I've never heard of it being too high before

    Maybe it's all the dark cabbage we eat, but I won't mention it, in case she stops buying it lol

    Not saying this is the case with your missus but there is a condition called haemochromatosis that can cause the iron levels to build up to high levels over the years-The treatment is having some blood removed periodically I believe and is more common in people of Irish descent I think.

    Doc thought I had that about 3 years ago. No basis behind it apart from my surname I later found out !

    Both of us have Irish in our ancestry, her grandad and my surname, but have never traced how far back I was a paddy, interesting, thanks, I'll get her to look up that

    Years ago a friend of mine was diagnosed hemochromatosis and had treatment. It may be worth your wife checking this out ... I just wonder if your Doctor showed any concern ...


    But talking Cabbage aren't we lucky to have so many different types to choose from. My pet hate is if it is overcooked it just ruins the nutrients ... not to mention the taste.
