When my Mum was in Hospital before she died, there wasn't room in the Diabetes ward so she was put on the General ward in Southampton.
She was bullied by a moo of a nurse to eat things like Rice Krispies and Weetabix. She wasn't stupid. She was 63 and had been type 1 since she was 15. She knew exactly which foods affected her BG. But she was very poorly and didn't have the strength to fight this damn woman.
I wanted to challenge her on Mum's behalf, but Dad was fearful that it would make Mum even more of a target. Isn't that awful. To be fearful of those who are supposed to be caring for you.
Turns out Mum had Celiac Disease, so shouldn't have had those foods foisted on her for that reason, let alone the Diabetes.
Is it any wonder my faith in the Medical Profession has gone down the plug? I've seen way enough damage done by them to last me a lifetime.
