One particular blog I enjoy is "Old Running Fox" and in his most recent post he states "I was fartleking" ....well were you I thought and read on with interest, his photographs are great too.
I later discovered (thanks to Wiki) "Fartlek, means "speed play" in Swedish, and is a training method that blends continuous training with interval training. The variable intensity and continuous nature of the exercise places stress on both the aerobic and anaerobic systems. It differs from traditional interval training in that it is unstructured; intensity and/or speed varies, as the athlete wishes. Most fartlek sessions last a minimum of 45 minutes and can vary from aerobic walking to anaerobic sprinting. Fartlek training is generally associated with running, but can include almost any kind of exercise."
Some of you may have come across the term 'Fartlek' or even done some 'Fartleking' but lovely 'Old Running Fox' is in his 80's .....as I said to him recently I didn't even walk 26 miles this week let alone run them.
Have any members here done 'Fartleking' or know anyone that does?
I've put a link to his blog - do go over and have a look.
