The first big lie is that Type 2 Diabetes is chronic and progressive. The second lie is that treatment of blood sugar is the primary target of therapy.

New from Dr Jason Fung makes a lot of sense as usual

I am so impressed by this young man.

In the latest blog post - Kurt's patient profile - he makes this statement regarding bariatric surgery...."If I recommend that a patient fast for a week or more, other health professionals think I’m crazy. If instead, I recommend that a patient has major invasive surgery to remove healthy stomach and change an normal intestinal tract into an abnormal one, all so that he can fast, then I’m a good doctor. Crazy."

It is crazy. The whole system is crazy. Don't bother to find out if some natural process will reverse a problem, just slice 'em open and remove the offending bit or give 'em drugs to stop the symptoms. Doctors are supposed to heal, not scar or poison!

nothing is his own work, he screen scrapes, last week he was on 'alternate day fasting' is the bestest thing
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAwgdX5VxGc&feature=youtu.be

ADA did a write-up on taylor and he jumped on, at least he's flexible and not fixed in his view. the 800 cal restricted diet is only to get rid of the organ fat, so you can eat again with whatever beta cells are left

    http://www.ncl.ac.uk/events/public-lectures/item.php?roy-taylor-diabetes

next he may need to add, fructose and how T2 can make upto 10x a normal person through the polyol pathway
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KybOPCB2Qd4

then he needs the sugar video and may need to add, insulin blocks the leptin receptors in the hypothalamus and is one thing that doesn't turn off the hunger response.

When a professional changes his or her opinion as he/she refines his or her understanding, I have far more respect than for those who doggedly and blindly stick to theirs despite the evidence to the contrary. We had too much of that with the likes of Ancel Keys.

Sometimes they may be on the right lines but find, as new information becomes available, that they need to adjust their understandng.

That's no bad thing in my opinion.

At the end of the day, this young man recognises that carbs are bad. By adding fasting into the mix, he is taking it all one step further. There are many out there like me for whom low-carb high-fat just isn't working. Whilst eating more carbs isn't the answer, maybe we have to go back to how diabetes was treated before the advent of injectable insulin, with a relatively low calorie, low fat diet.

Whilst sugar metabolism is always going to be helped by radically lowering catbs, that doesn't always address the insulin resistance issue in some T2s.

It doesn't matter how low-carb I go, I cannot lose weight. Since I started fasting last Thursday evening, I have lost 4lbs. With eating relatively low calorie, and keeping my fats fairly low too, my body is being forced to burn its own fat.

There is some evidence that rogue visceral fat in the pancreas and liver may contribute to insulin resistance, so losing weight is imperative. If The only way I can acheive this is to go low carb AND low fat, then so be it.

Hi Ali you said " It doesn't matter how low-carb I go, I cannot lose weight. Since I started fasting last Thursday evening, I have lost 4lbs. With eating relatively low calorie, and keeping my fats fairly low too, my body is being forced to burn its own fat.

Please let us know how you get on  ............ Smile

On another note Bernstein, Fung and Fergus - I'm not diabetic but live the low carb high fat lifestyle, eating too much higher carb foods and sugars just doesn't make sense to me, but these three guys do make sense to me ! sunny

    All the best Jan
