You git! lol You've made me hungry for a fry up now and I'm all out of supplies 'til tomorrow! mrgreen

You know what needs to be invented now to complement that? A low carb black pudding!! Wonder if almond meal and the usual spices boiled up with the pigs blood could work instead of the high carb rusk they usually use? If it did we should start a business! mrgreen

I do admit to having a slice of black pudding occasionally ...

I did buy some gluten-free black pudding on Bury market a month or two back.

I have the odd one too occasionally as a treat, did the gluten free version have less total carbs per 100 grams than the traditional recipe Rod? If so I might be having it more with my fry ups! Smile

Edit...Just noticed you got it off the market so I'm guessing there was no carb values available. D'oh! Wink

Free range eggs are not only very orange/yellow, they also taste a lot better. Last winter our hens got down to laying 0-2 eggs per day so I bought some store eggs and served them to my wife without her knowing that they were store bought. She took one bite and ask me if I had done something to the eggs. I then told her that they were store bought. We could barely eat them.

Up to that time we both did not really believe that free range was that much better. We knew that the yolks were a different color but did not expect the taste to be better. We did finally find organic store eggs that were marginally better, but we do not want to repeat the experience. After all my breakfast everyday includes an omelette made with heavy cream fried in bacon grease with a hot salsa on top.

We now have 20+ hens so that should not happen next winter. And in case it does I have been freezing some of the extra eggs as a backup. No more factory eggs for us!

@OldTech  very interesting to hear you have your own hens and 20+ that is a good number. I always try to buy free range eggs, the colour of the yoke is much richer and I do think they taste richer somehow. However, if your budget doesn't allow then I would say to people please use eggs in your menu plans and buy what you can afford.

One thing I didn't realise is you can freeze eggs? This may seem a silly question but do they freeze ok?
Does it affect the taste etc. Be interested to hear / read your thoughts.

    All the best Jan

PS Does anyone else freeze eggs? Do let us know - thanks Smile

Yes, you can freeze eggs. What I do is to scramble the eggs with heavy cream and freeze them in 1 inch silicon ice cube trays. I then store them in plastic bags. I do plan on getting a vacuum packaging system to delay freezer burn in the next few weeks.

    @OldTech

Many thanks for the info. I perhaps should have realised you needed to scramble the eggs first. Obviously to freeze a fresh egg may have caused problems i.e. shells cracking etc.

Have you got your eye on any particular packaging system? Are they expensive?

I was looking at some of David Beckham's Instagram pictures yesterday and it was very pleasing to see what his breakfast had been...

Very similar to this picture ... is David a Low Carber I wonder !

Have to say my free range eggs tasted great with my two slices of bacon and mushrooms this morning  sunny

    Post edit.

    I just found the picture.

As you would imagine Eddie had something to say.

"David Beckham sports star and epitome of health and fitness eats the same breakfast as me. David Beckham has got to be one of the best known sportsmen on the planet. He has enjoyed a very long and distinguished career, and stayed remarkably serious injury free. As you would imagine I was chuffed to see the instagram picture of David's low carb high fat breakfast. Clearly the man knows what good grub is all about. Not for David, a bowl of high starch sugar gruel, as recommended by the BDA, NHS, DUK, ADA and other peddler's of junk."
