    Do You BOSU ?

    Post by Jan1 on Fri Dec 05 2014, 12:32

    Do I BOSU ?   Excuse me ? ?

    Why Do You BOSU ?

What on earth is BOSU ?

I didn't have a clue, I knew it was something to do with keeping fit. I've heard of the Hula Hoop ......which I'm pleased to say I can still do  cheers

A blogging friend, who does a lot of Spartan races, has a 70 year old sister who has taken up the BOSU and apparently loves it.

Well once again it was 'Wiki' to the rescue:
" A BOSU Balance Trainer, or BOSU ball as it is often called, is a fitness training device, invented in 1999 by David Weck,[consisting of an inflated rubber hemisphere attached to a rigid platform. It is also referred to as the "blue half-ball", because it looks like a stability ball cut in half. The name is an acronym which stands for "BOth Sides Up" a reference to the two ways a BOSU ball can be positioned. The device is often used for balance training. When the dome side faces up, the BOSU ball provides an unstable surface while the device remains stable. This combination of stable/unstable allows a wide range of users, from the young, elderly, or injured to the elite level athlete. With the dome side up, the device can be used for athletic drills and aerobic activities. As the name suggests, the device can also be flipped over so that the platform faces up. In this position, the device is highly unstable and can be used for a wide array of exercises as well."

Now do MID, Mo or Andy ever BOSU ? They seem to be the keep fit fans on our Forum. But if you've given this a try or have any thoughts please share them.  sunny

? ? Should I put a BOSU on my Christmas Present List ? santa

    All the best Jan

Never heard of them Jan but anything that encourages someone to work out must be a good thing ! I still pretty much stick with my Concept 2 indoor rower and the WattBike at work. Remember though, just going for a walk can really produce results by lowering BG levels and releasing all those feel good endorphins !

I'm so jealous of you Mo; not only your Natty Christmas Dreads but a Concept 2! The greatest fitness/torture machine invented by man.  There was a time, when the world was young, that I could do 2,000 metres averaging 1.45 per 500m.

I'm back on the burpees and the plank but would love to have a rowing machine to sprint on.

    Best

Decent 2K there Dillinger ! My PB for that distance is 6:58.8 ( 1:44.7 for 500m split ) which was a little while ago now. Sub 7 was a big milestone for me. I bought the C2 about 5 years ago and it still looks new although done over 7million metres on it ! They are quite expensive but will last a lifetime ! I'm off to Manchester in Mar 2015 for the English Champs.
