antibiotics yay or nay? Empty antibiotics yay or nay?

    Post by Andy12345 Fri Sep 19 2014, 22:51

hi, on wednesday after noon i dropped something very heavy onto my toes, it hurt,.... alot, i had to finish what i was doing but later when i took my shoe off my sock was red with blood and big toe nail had gone black, i went to walk in centre to find it had closed down so went into a&e where they xrayed it and the nurse said she couldnt see no breaks so put on a bandage with antibiotics telling me to take them as i was diabetic, i have never been a huge fan of antibiotics as i tend to take them for a few days, start feeling nausea and stop before i complete the course which is obviously bad, so now the big toes is still bleeding Sad its a cut from one extreme to the other just behind the nail bed, its not gushing, its a steady a very slow drip or more seeping of very bright red blood, so my question is after all that, do you think i should start the antibiotics? knowing ill hate them in 3 days and probly quit them! not out of choice, but feeling nausea as you prolly know sucks, would you think if i had diabetic foot issues this would stop the blood clotting? i would have thought the opposite so if im only taking the anitbods because of the diabetes and i dont honestly think diabetes is effecting my circulation, when tested ive been told i have very good circulation in my feet, and have you heard of a cut not healing before? ive never had that clotting thing before, i tend to heal really fast

    thanks for any thoughts Smile

I don't know about the antibiotics, but I wonder if the cut needs some stitches in it, if its still continuing to bleed? I hasten to add that my medical training peaked with a first aid badge in the Brownies!

i somehow trust your brownie badge more than my own doctors degree lol

with the antibods it seems they are given as a precaution to having diabetic bad circulation, well if i don't have bad circulation in my feet i reckon i should treat myself as a non diabetic and not take them

Andy please see my post on feet. I am not saying you are at rick of the situation highlighted, but we must treat any foot injury with the utmost priority and seriousness. If I was you I would get some steel toe capped shoes or boots to ensure this never happens again.

    All the best

I know this was posted yesterday, but has it stopped bleeding?

Are you eating enough green veg Andy, to get vitamin K? Try having some green smoothies?

One thing I find very helpful is to take plenty of vitamin C as it helps the healing process. I had a very sore gland in my neck a couple of days ago, but I took 4-5 grams of vit C over the course of the last two days and its now gone.

I don't blame you for not wanting to take the ABs. I avoid them like the plague. I've managed to avoid them for at least 15 years, and long may it continue.

    thankyou,

nope still bleeding lol my other toes are going yellow now so i guess thats a good sign huh, it has never been gushing blood since i took off a completely red soaked sock but it is very slowly seeping blood, its much brighter red than the blood out of my finger, even with my foot elevated, its a driplet an hour maybe thats the rate of bleed, almost like its crying blood, very odd, i am keeping it covered with this padded melonin stuff from the chemist, after about half hour you can see the blood start to come through, then after a couple of hours i change it and the inside is like a normal plaster would look over a new cut, it generally looks better today though so im quite happy, on the underside of my big toe its all black, i wonder if its the bruise leaking out if that makes sense, im happy it cut or id have one hell of a blood blister, i reckon ill lose the big toe nail, my nail on the other foot i lost after the marathon still isnt right so at least ill have evenly weird feet

Too right! If something don't seem right mate then get yourself down A&E as it's the weekend...No-one wants to see you do a 'Long John Silver'...In the meanwhile bathing your tootsie in some salted warm water might not be a bad idea.

Really probably needs some medical attention if it is still bleeding since Wednesday. And yeah with an open wound like that, antibiotics are not a bad idea. You should have clotted up by now. Are you taking any blood thinners? Aspirin, etc?

Andy l would be wary if the blood is very red as you indicate it could be there was a small artery damaged it isn't squirting as there is no big opening outwards (make sense ?) It would explain the big bruising area it is seeping under the surface. With luck it has now self sealed but if it starts again or bruise appears to get bigger .... go to A & E.
The fact it has taken this long to stop though does need looking into IF you can bear it speak to your Dr about testing for bleeding disorders you do not need something major and finding out that there is a problem...call it a wake up.

Regards salt it is 1 teaspoon of salt to a pint of warm water do not do more it will burn/damage the tissue.

i'd do what you're doing, stay off it tomorrow. let it clot and take preventative antibiotics. see ya dr and try a different family of drug next time, till you find one that suits
