    Spring Is On The Way

Post by chris c on Wed Feb 01 2017, 22:07

More snowdrops in several places now, not properly in flower but showing white.

Catkins have been hanging for a while now. Mother used to write in her diaries

"Today I saw the catkins blow"

here's the rest of the poem

    http://poetrynook.com/poem/february-15

I spotted some crocus buds in my tubs too, and drove round the lanes on the way back from the shops to see the first pussy willows on what I think is a purple willow in a garden. Whatever, it's much earlier than the wild ones.

More birdsong and things chasing one another around semi-amorously, and the days are noticeably longer already and the sun setting distinctly further north than it did.

The long run of sunny days has come to an end though, yesterday was just dull and gloomy, today was foggy as well, though the fog cleared a bit when it started raining.

Forgot to mention the early cherry trees, with the tiny pink flowers on bare branches. And today on the way home I saw the first patch of winter aconites

I enjoyed the poem, thanks Chris.

It's always good to see the early cherry trees, just love the colours of the blossom.
Winter Aconites, and that cheerful yellow colour are great too.

So nice to think that Spring may well be just around the corner!

Although are we going to have a visit from Doris soon?

So far so good here. Though I aborted my walk on the beach because the blast was just too Arctic yesterday even for me.

After a cold start we've had a glorious day here plenty of sunshine and only a light breeze, with the days getting longer I'm starting to look forward to spring already Cool

Yay! The mice failed to eat all my aconites, I have some in flower too, also some scented violets but not enough to smell them yet.

Yes the sun's setting later and further north every day now, and more birdies singing. Makes up for the long dark, even though it often gets colder.

After being quite chirpy yesterday about the weather today has brought me back down to earth it's been cold and overcast all day with occasional showers reminds me we are still in the depths of winter and spring is still a long way off  Sad

As soon as I looked out of the window earlier today and saw one of our neighbours 'shivering' even though she had a good thick coat on ... I just knew extra layers would be needed!

I was right! The wind definitely had a chilling factor brrr

Now today has been better, because we saw this (well similar) when looking out of the window this morning

A little sunshine makes all the difference ...

    Wouldn't you agree!

Out earlier today and we were shivering ... the sun had disappeared and we were being warned the gritters would be out tonight !

Saw some good looking snowdrops (can snowdrops be good-looking?) and some spring bulbs which were definitely beginning to spring through ... sign of colourful times to come.

Snowdrop connoisseurs use mirrors to look into the flowers from below to see the different varieties.

Yes all starting to happen here, plus more birdies in song and chasing one another around amorously. Today was especially dire though, according to the car it never got above 2 C. The only reason I went out was to get my toenails pruned. At least the Rooks and Jackdaws put on another spectacular display while I cooked my liver and bacon.

No Spring is not around the corner yet !
We were lulled into a false sense of security
It's snowing and I think there may be a few kiddies hoping to build one of these
Will the snow settle? Will they succeed?

Who knows ... I'm keeping warm indoors today  Smile

It's always darkest before dawn. Or in this case coldest before spring. We had a sprinkling of snow yesterday and again today but it didn't settle and later turned into rain.

    Hehe hello mate

Best time of the day to be out, there's no bad weather, just bad clothes, I am addicted to the game so to avoid upsetting the boss I go early, it also suites my insomnia perfectly, not teeing off until 8:30 today as I've organized a little rabble of us to play for a trophy, so will be home later today, the kids are 13 and 16 now, if I moved out the house they probly wouldn't notice for a fortnight, and the wife figures the exercise is good for me so I get a lot of grace

There are many who may say early mornings are great to be on a golf course, but playing in the driving snow ... now that is dedication.

But it's a great game, Eddie and our boys had many a great game and walk around the golf course together...
I often used to meet them near to the end of the game and then enjoyed a tea or coffee in the club house.

Reading the post you've put up at 5.16am this morning Exclamation
I hope you had a  good game - did the trophy come your way Question

Hi Andy nice to see you over here, I bet you are just checking in to see if the last of the summer wine moaning old bastards are still around, i.e. me, Chris and Graham. Still here and still moaning. Golf a great game, but only madmen go out in this sort of weather. rofl

BTW remember our bun fight re the 'socialists' you was right, what a complete shower of shite the present Labour party is. affraid With comrade Corbyn and Abbott the Labour Party has zero chance of ever being elected again. I'm joining the local Conservative club, I might last a few weeks before I get banned. Getting banned is what I do. rofl
