Did anyone else watch the truly dreadful Panorama about diabetes?

Apparently children are born with Type 1, unlike Type 2 which is caused by being a lazy fat glutton.

A doctor claimed never to have seen a Type 2 child until recently. Muppet! What he should have said is that he never DIAGNOSED a Type 2 child until recently. I know enough people with MODY and other genetic forms of diabetes, some of which like me started having symptoms in childhood, and which are generally called "Type 2", and some of them actually got diagnosed.

Then there was the huge fat guy who was on insulin and another injectable, who started his day with FOUR Weetabix, then panicked because he had eaten chocolate. Probably not his fault, he may have been told to eat a low fat breakfast.

I could be wrong, and I deleted the programme in a fit of pique so can't go back and check, but I don't think carbohydrate was mentioned once.

Then there was The Truth About Meat, which someone described as TV for children.

Reading reviews/comments around the papers and web, it would seem many others may also have thrown shoes at their TV

    All the best Jan

Your correct Chris carbs didn't get a mention it was more of a plug for bariatric surgery, probably the one redeeming feature was the graphic scenes of amputations may make some realise the dangers of uncontrolled blood sugars

When I joined the Beeb, a long time ago, they didn't go in for tabloid journalism.

Yes I remember those days too. Horizon was actually about science, not special effects.

Nice to see others were also unimpressed.

Another bunch of bollocks, Inside Out. Apparently diabetes is caused by being fat, and of course being fat is caused by eating fat, as "everyone knows". Once again carbs were never mentioned, especially not by the very fat researcher who is looking for genes that make people enjoy eating fat. You couldn't make this shit up even if you were Chris Cashin . . .
